Administrative Full-time Replacement Position

The Teaching and Learning Consultant will support Conestoga’s strategic objective to provide excellence in academic delivery. In particular, the incumbent is responsible for developing and delivering faculty development resources and learning opportunities primarily for Conestoga faculty with a key focus on supporting faculty as Conestoga internationalizes and looks to support equity-deserving students and faculty.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement. Please note that travel to all Conestoga campuses is a requirement of the position. This position will require evening and weekend work throughout the year.

Responsibilities
  • Create short courses, workshops, services, and resources for faculty
  • Support faculty in creating assessments and grading tools (e.g., rubrics), which meet the expectations of outcomes-based education and are reflective of academic integrity
  • Create regular best practice videos, posts, guides, etc. to support customized coaching, observations, workshops, and consultations
  • Develop and deliver dynamic workshops and other learning opportunities on general best teaching practices for faculty at all campuses (e.g., class management, evaluation, reading circles, teaching squares, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, coordinators, Chairs, and other college stakeholders to identify common learning needs and develop appropriate workshops and resources
  • Work with the Director, Teaching & Learning, and other Consultants on a variety of faculty development initiatives
  • Develop and co-deliver onboarding activities for Conestoga faculty, which includes delivering new faculty orientation courses and creating and updating new faculty onboarding resources
  • Conduct observations of teaching and act as a teaching practice expert to provide theoretical and/or applied direction and advice on a wide variety of topics to faculty and Chairs (e.g., active learning, outcomes-based delivery, academic offences, de-escalating conflict in the classroom, group work, etc.)
  • Remain current with teaching practices and procedures by teaching one course per year at Conestoga
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field of study
  • Nine or more years of experience teaching adults in outcomes-based, post-secondary credit courses,
  • High knowledge level of all aspects of the teaching and learning process
  • High skill level in all aspects of the post-secondary education process (e.g. curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom management, evaluation, active learning, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of learning management systems
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Substantial experience teaching international students and/or demonstrable intercultural skills
  • Ability to facilitate difficult conversations
  • Excellent Microsoft Office 365 and document creation skills
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Coaching skills
  • Consultation and planning skills
  • The preferred candidate will have had previous experience leading “teacher education” and experience with technology-enhanced teaching practices.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience teaching applied, skills-based learning outcomes
