POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Senior Advisor, Intergovernmental Affairs you’ll be at the forefront of shaping the future of our city’s relationships with various external partners. Your expertise will contribute to the development and delivery of our city’s Intergovernmental Affairs strategy and advocacy campaigns. Working closely with the Manager, Intergovernmental Affairs, you’ll engage with departments across the city to foster integrated approaches that advance the city’s interest to ensure our strategies are holistic and impactful.

In this role, you’ll leverage your deep understanding of government policies, legislative frameworks and processes to inform our city’s government relations efforts to strengthen the city’s ties and partnership opportunities with governmental agencies, community stakeholders and other levels of government. Your ability to develop innovative solutions within a fluid, sometimes ambiguous environment and in changing political dynamics will set us apart as leaders in our industry. Your keen eye for trends and opportunities, gained through media scanning and environmental analysis will empower us to remain agile and responsive in a rapidly evolving landscape.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Political Acumen:Deep understanding of politics and government administration, coupled with a keen awareness of current trends and issues at various levels. Ability to identify and navigate politically sensitive activities with tact and good judgement, protecting the interest of the organization while also positioning our organization as a respected industry leader.
  • Driver for Results:Demonstrated track record for consistently surpassing set objectives, with a focus on achieving measurable outcomes.
  • Government Navigation:Familiarity with municipal government structures, along with a nuanced understanding of administrative workings across different government orders.
  • Effective Communication: Exceptional communication skills, including strategic planning and reporting, persuasive writing and able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Analytical Insight:Proficient research and critical thinking skills with demonstrated judgment to recognize and leverage cross-boundary opportunities.
  • Time and Process Management:Demonstrated organizational skills, enabling you to excel under tight deadlines while managing confidential information.
  • Relationship Building:A track record of nurturing positive relationships with individuals in government departments, agencies, community and business leaders and decision-makers.
  • Integrity and Trust:Consistently upholds ethical standards, communicates honestly, transparently and exhibits reliability.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The knowledge, skills, and experience required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized bachelor’s degree in political science, business administration, or related discipline, plus 5 years of progressive experience in the municipal, provincial or federal levels of government including working closely with key stakeholders such as elected officials. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
