Purchasing and Facilities Specialist

Location: Kitchener, Ontario

Job Type: Full-Time

Experience: 3+ years

Education: College or University graduate (ideally in Business Operations or Supply Chain)


About the Job:
We are looking for a passionate purchasing specialist that can also coordinate our facility needs. This is a new role that will be 80% purchasing and 20% facilities. We’re a fast-growing company and the role will be buying electronics, chemicals, mechanical goods, lab supplies and office supplies. You’ll also handle day-to-day coordination with property management, the company staff, and contractors for routine and emergency facility needs.

You know how to ask the right questions to both internal stakeholders and suppliers to get the information required to move forward on a project. You’re a skilled negotiator, problem solver, jack-of-all-trades type and can shift gears quickly when needed. And you’re excited to join a scale-up company and grow a career in procurement or operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Procure all laboratory chemicals and supplies for both manufacturing and product development
  • Execute ad-hoc requests for MRO buying
  • Execute manufacturing buying from MRP and saved reports
  • Issue and track purchase orders
  • Maintain relationships with external suppliers, contractors and property management.
  • Source alternative suppliers to reduce cost, improve quality, and/or mitigate risk.
  • Ensure controlled chemicals follow the proper procurement process to keep the company safe and compliant.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best total cost ownership and YoY savings
  • Assist in the transfer of product information from PLM to ERP
  • Ensure ERP records are kept up to date.
  • Coordinate and resolve both urgent and routine facilities requests.
  • Assist in process improvement activities.
  • Help with other supply chain and facilities tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • College or University graduate (ideally in Business Operations or Supply Chain)
  • Procurement and inventory management experience
  • High attention to detail
  • Skilled negotiator
  • Ability to multitask
  • Above-average MS Excel skills
  • Process focused
  • Continuous improvement mindset

Bonus for

  • Supply chain or procurement designation
  • Knowledge of biotech or chemistry products
  • Knowledge of facility services, but we are willing to train the right procurement candidate.
