We are SLR Consulting (Canada), a 550+ team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across 18 office locations in Canada. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of advisory and over 30 technical environmental and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability, we are Making Sustainability Happen.

As our new Principal Engineer - Architectural Acoustics & Vibration, you will take on responsibility for leading our terrific team of engineers and technicians in Ontario. You will also be responsible for helping further develop our client base in this key growth area for SLR. You will also be undertaking technical work to support the wider business development activities.

Job Description

Your tasks will also include:
  • Acoustics, noise and vibration assessments on challenging and stimulating projects encompassing:
    • Building acoustics: examples include institutional, health care, commercial, educational, recreational facilities for architectural acoustics, building service noise control, environmental noise control, and vibration-sensitive applications
    • Building vibration: examples include design of floors for vibration from occupant activity (footfalls), vehicle-induced vibrations, building services, design for sensitive medical and research equipment
  • Preparation and presentation of technical reports
  • Coordination of projects to maintain schedule and budgets
  • Liaising with the SLR Canadian Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Manager to align business development activities with the wider strategy

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience working in acoustics and/or vibration control
  • Direct acoustics and/or vibration consulting and project management experience is mandatory
  • Demonstrated current environmental acoustics, noise, and vibration skill set, including understanding the fundamentals and approaches used to measure, predict, and evaluate building acoustics, noise, and vibration
  • Experience using any of CadnaA, CATT, Odeon or EASE, SAP 2OOO, Visual Basic, Strutt, or Matlab is an asset
  • Established current working knowledge of provincial, local, and industry specific regulations and guidelines
  • Financial/business acumen, and a successful track record in proposal development and RFP responses is crucial
  • Ability to relate to existing and potential clients to foster and maintain existing relationships
  • Professional status in Ontario (credentials in other provinces an asset)
  • Degree in engineering, physical science, or environmental science. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (some short-term travel expected)
