POSITION OVERVIEW
We have an opportunity for a regular full-time Municipal Reader position with the Police Services department for up to 6 months. This position performs specialized clerical work of a technical nature which involves reading occurrence files to ensure proper investigational procedures have been followed and evidentiary requirements met. This position reviews occurrence files for investigational content and quality; ensures the completeness, accuracy and validity of U.C.R (Uniform Crime Reporting) coding; records and authorizes the removal and addition of entries; obtains and analyzes relevant criminal operation data and prepares reports on crime patterns, investigational concerns and/or related legislative matters; and provides direction to members and other staff to ensure compliance with policy and procedures and advises same of system capabilities and policy and procedural changes. The ideal candidate will have great interpersonal and attention-to-detail skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by business courses, plus considerable related experience in investigational work in a police environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of investigational procedures and evidentiary requirements in conducting police investigations and of the Criminal Code of Canada and other applicable Federal and Provincial statutes enforced by the RCMP.
  • Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to maintaining RCMP files and records.
  • Considerable knowledge of clerical and recordkeeping methods and procedures.
  • Ability to read occurrence files for investigational content and quality, to ensure that all proper investigational procedures and evidentiary requirements are met, and that all investigations are complete.
  • Ability to ensure the completeness, accuracy and validity of U.C.R (Uniform Crime Reporting) coding and C.P.I.C. (Canadian Police Information Centre) files and records.
  • Ability to provide direction to members, investigators and other staff to ensure that all investigative actions comply with prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate computer terminals.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work.


LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Security Clearance

This is a temporary full-time position for approximately six (6) months. This term may be shortened or extended due to circumstances unforeseen at the time of posting.
