THIS IS A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT POSITION FOR A BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEE. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Reporting to the Director, Co-op, Career and Experiential Learning, as part of a dedicated team, the incumbent’s main focus is to provide ongoing employment preparation support to Co-op students. Working closely with others in the Co-op and Career Success team, the duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing career advice and coaching to students via one-on-one meetings, workshops and in-class presentations to assist with career information / decisions to maximize job search success
  • Supporting student development and learning through the delivery of the Co-op and Career Preparation course, which includes information on employment preparation, job search strategies, interview preparation, relevant legislations, health and safety, career exploration, employment expectations, etc.
  • Assisting students with the development of effective resume / cover letters for a successful job search, self-marketing and interview techniques, and job search strategies
  • Maintaining existing relationships with diverse government agencies (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board [WSIB], Employment Ontario Service providers, etc.) to promote Georgian and ensure government administration requirements are met
  • Supporting the facilitation of on-campus employer interviews, meetings and events
  • Evaluating students’ performance and progression during the program including academic program learning outcomes, reviewing and providing feedback for post work-term reports and issuing final credits if warranted
  • Ensuring all student records are kept current with work term and performance results, assessment data, and relevant career counseling information
  • Representing the Co-op and Career Success department, the academic areas as assigned, and the college at public relations functions, both externally (as required) and internally (team meetings, program advisory committees, macro curriculum meetings, etc.)
  • Supporting students in the exploration and completion of entrepreneurial co-op work terms
  • Assisting with specific project initiatives under the direction of the manager (e.g. development and implementation of innovative inspired programs, events and services connected to the career success of students at Georgian)
  • Recommending curriculum changes based on student feedback and / or market trends to assist with the integration of Co-op programs within the academic curriculum
  • Supporting students to overcome various barriers to employment, as well as international students and students with disabilities. Coaching students on self-advocacy in the workplace
  • Providing support to others in the Co-op and Career Success team as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully completed a three year postsecondary diploma / degree in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to career counselling, business and / or human resources
  • Five years of experience in:
o career advising and employment preparation
o facilitation of work integrated learning opportunities
o workshop development and facilitation
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service to diverse client groups, with a proven ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
  • Experience coaching on self-advocacy and supporting clients facing barriers to employment
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of an integrated, collaborative work group
  • Experience with social media for service promotion, and Microsoft Office Suite in order to develop job search applications, respond to and send email and create presentations
  • Experience with a student information system (preferably Banner) and a web-based co-op / career management system (preferably Orbis) in order to enter and maintain student data and college systems that support student learning (preferably Blackboard)
  • Knowledge of experiential learning theory is an asset
  • Experience in advising and coaching International students is advantageous
  • Communication skills (written and oral) to develop and maintain relationships with students, employers and staff
  • Ability to work independently with initiative to meet department targets and deliverables
  • Knowledge of students’ developmental and learning needs and understanding of the support required for student success
  • Time management and organizational skills in order to set priorities, handle multiple responsibilities in a high volume environment
  • Genuine interest in helping others succeed and prior experience in customer service and/or student success services
  • Teaching and Training Adults Certificate and Career Development Practitioner (Graduate Certificate) are considered assets
