DEVELOPMENT OFFICER/BUSINESS MANAGER,

SCIENCE EAST, FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK.

Science East: New Brunswick’s Science Centre

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Officer/Business Manager is directly accountable to the Chief Executive officer (CEO) and works closely with the CEO and other staff to meet Science East’s financial goals and is responsible for identifying fundraising opportunities; planning, organizing, and writing grants and proposals; developing special events and working with the CEO on fundraising.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must embrace the mission of Science East.

Have knowledge and experience in grant writing, fund raising techniques and identifying fundraising opportunities.

Have strong interpersonal and writing skills.

Possess the skills to work amicably with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.

Able to build excellent relationships with grant bodies and sponsors.

A “self-starter”, goal driven, able to complete proposals quickly and work to an annual work plan.

Organized and have “follow through” on tasks and goals.

Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and the community, able to work effectively with others, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening skills.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.

Bilingualism (English/French) an asset.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work closely with the CEO, other staff and Board of Directors to achieve the financial goals.

Develop a yearly work plan to develop and execute fundraising strategies, prioritise proposals and develop events to achieve the organization’s financial and program goals.

Report weekly and meet monthly targets.

Identify and research prospective grants/donors.

Write grant, foundation, and corporate proposals.

Oversee grant seeking from research to reporting requirements/fulfilment of obligations.

Establish ongoing and effective communication with existing and prospective donors/supporters.

Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.

Build planned giving, annual fundraising, capital campaigns and other fundraising activities and events, while collaborating in tandem with other staff.

Public appearances/speaking engagements to engage the community with Science East.

Liaise with and attend Staff and Committee meetings.

Maintain fundraising database and tracking systems.

Work with Communications on publications to support fund raising activities.

Maintain gift recognition and other programs including sponsorships, memberships and other revenue streams.

Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.

Perform other duties as requested.
