About the Position
The successful candidate will join Morgan Solar’s Product Validation Team, working on the development and testing of MSI products including custom solar module designs, monitoring and data acquisition systems, energy producing window coverings, and optical films for use in solar modules. Primary responsibilities will include: prototyping, execution of test plans, rework and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems, assisting with installations and field testing, and small scale production. This is a hands-on role where experience with electronics, hand tools, tools and/or machine shop equipment is an asset.
As we are a small company, the candidate will be required to be flexible with their roles to provide assistance to Project Leads as the need arises.
Required Capabilities
- Data acquisition and management systems (LabVIEW, Campbell Scientific, Keithley etc.)
- Electrical circuit design and prototyping, soldering and circuit analysis
- Basic mechanical design and building fundamentals (using aluminum or wood)
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow work instructions
- Ability to handle and lift solar panels or other heavy components (up to 20 kg)
- Ability to take precise, reliable experimental measurements in controlled and outdoor settings
- Data preparation and basic analysis for test reports
Required Skills and Attributes
- Hands-on experience with electrical testing instruments such as digital multimeter, and oscilloscope
- Hands-on experience with machine shop and hand tools, familiarity working with wood, aluminum, and steel a valuable asset
- Learns quickly and can adapt to a fast-paced environment typical of a small, growing company
- Ability to work well both independently, and in collaboration with the team
- Attention to detail
- Excellent work ethic
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
- Keeps tools and equipment organized
- Hands-on individual
Good to Have
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Solidworks)
- Experience working with 3D printing and CNC routers for rapid prototyping
- Scripting or programming languages (e.g. C#, python)
- Familiarity with the installation and function of photovoltaic panels
- Experience with solar panel production
- You are encouraged to list any extra-curricular projects you feel are relevant
