Profile

The primary purpose of a Technical Writer is to:
  • Apply standard technical writing methods to support Engineering, Continuing Airworthiness (CAW) & Customer Support /Product Support (CSPS) with the incorporation of change requests for the fleet’s product support manuals.
  • Process Manual Change Requests (MCRs)
  • Support the Technical Publications Coordinator in production, distribution and archiving of all Product Service Manual Revisions and Temporary Revisions.
  • Acquire knowledge of and follow the established Practices and Procedures during the execution of their tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities

Incorporation of technical data for Product Support Manuals (PSMs) and/or Product Support Publications (PSPs)
  • Execute technical writing in editable software.
  • Proofreading of draft edits produced by tech writers (peer review).
  • Updating illustrations, as applicable

Manual Change Request (MCR) Processing
  • Ensure request information is correct, clear and concise.
  • Ensure appropriate references and redlines are scanned and filed.
  • Initiate report and create folder to contain all reference data.
  • Ensure VQ request maintenance is updated regularly.

Production, Distributing and Archiving
  • Manual change reference material is scanned and filed (digital and hard copy)
  • Published and dated PDF files are complete (LOEPs, changed pages, change bars)
  • Permanent Record is finalized.
  • Transmittal package is prepped for distribution.
  • MCR status is completed in VQ

Education
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in related field or related industry experience in Customer Support, Technical Publications.

Experience
  • Five (5) years relevant experience in technical writing and publications; proficiency and extensive experience in writing technical documentation in English. Relevant degree or diploma are an asset.

Skills
  • Intermediate to advanced user knowledge of MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Intermediate experience with Arbortext or similar SGML/XML tools
  • Intermediate experience with FrameMaker
  • Self-Starter
  • Effective Time Management skills
  • Work independently or as part of a team
  • Foster personal and professional growth
