The Partnerships and Consultation Unit in the Ministry of Health is seeking an innovative and strategic Senior Policy Advisor to lead the design, development, implementation and monitoring of a variety of programs that support the healthcare system.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
  • Plan, provide technical advice and expertise for a variety of programs that support the healthcare system.
  • Provide technical leadership in the identification and coordination of policy initiatives
  • Conduct environmental scans and trends analyses to identify and conceptualize directions and key issues in support of the division/ministry policy initiatives
  • Develop partnerships, negotiate and build consensus with key internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Provide expert analysis in the development of policy and program recommendation and in providing advice to senior executives to support decision-making


How do I qualify?

Health Planning and Policy Development Knowledge

  • Program and policy development principles and government decision-making processes for the analysis, review or development and implementation of policies and programs.
  • Program analysis and evaluation techniques, to assess the effectiveness of new or changed policies and programs.


Project Leadership Skills

  • Project management skills to participate in special projects and cross-functional teams and ensure cooperation/sharing with all participating parties


Interpersonal and Influencing Skills

  • Presentation and communication skills to make presentations, gain support and provide advice
  • Partnership and relationship management skills to develop key partnerships for policy development and implementation
  • Consultation skills to collaborate across government and with partners on research, policy initiatives and ministry priorities.
  • Negotiation, conflict resolution and facilitation skills to build consensus on policy initiatives with policy teams and contribute to resolutions


Analytical and Research Skills

  • You have research and analytical techniques, including literature reviews, survey techniques, performance measures and financial modelling, to conduct environmental scans, trends analyses and quantitative and qualitative research
  • You can review, assess and summarize data into solutions and recommendations
  • You can provide issues management and expert advice to senior executives, including providing recommendations
