Recreation Technician I - Program Assistant, Parks Programs up to 9 months

The Operations Program Delivery and Partnerships team is looking to hire up to 8 Program Assistants to provide support to associated programs during the spring/summer season. Programs may include Edmonton In Bloom, Community Gardens, Partners in Parks, Naturalization, Pop Up Gardens and Benchmark.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with program logistics and implementation including research

  • Assist with online and print media communication tools for program information

  • Respond to phone and email inquiries

  • Complete visits and resource deliveries to program sites

  • Assist with mapping of program sites using ArcGIS and/or Google MyMaps

  • Maintain materials and equipment used for program delivery

  • Be responsible for file management

  • Assist with volunteer management, including recruitment, training, communications, supply distribution and recognition activities

  • Provide input into the assessment of overall program effectiveness

  • Track program statistics

  • Support other greening initiatives as needed

Qualifications :
  • Completion of Grade 12

  • Degree and/or diploma program in forestry, agriculture, horticulture, botany, biological sciences, recreation, education, urban planning or related field is an asset

  • Experience delivering education or recreation programs to a variety of audiences

  • Experience supervising or working with volunteers is an asset

  • Experience in program planning and promotions is an asset

  • Plant identification skills and experience in horticulture or plant care is an asset

  • Experience using mapping software, particularly ArcGIS, is an asset.

  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Maps and Google Drive

  • Strong written, oral, presentation and web-based communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Strong time management and organization skills

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent)

  • Successful candidates must arrange their own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This will require business automotive insurance coverage

  • Possession of valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C is a requirement of this position

  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

  • Applicants may be tested

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, from March to November.

Shifts are variable throughout the week, including regular weekend, afternoon and evening work depending on operational requirements.

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $18.067 - $22.361 (Hourly)
