Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Physiotherapist provides assessment of assigned
clients and develops and implements individual and group physiotherapy treatment programs. The
Physiotherapist is accountable for maintaining the Standards of Practice and Ethics of the College of
Physiotherapists of Ontario. The Physiotherapist will provide clinical education and experience for allied health
students and will participate in formal teaching and research in collaboration with Queen’s University or other
institutions. As a team member, the Physiotherapist participates in discipline-specific and inter-professional
activities that are directed towards a client-centered environment and that contribute to quality, operational
efficiency, professional and program development.
Role Responsibilities
- Utilizes outcome measures to guide clinical decision-making
- Reviews medical referrals
- Performs appropriate evaluation/assessment
- Analyses and states clinical findings
- Establishes treatment goals in collaboration with the client
- Identifies and implements treatment to achieve client goals
- Ensures informed consent is obtained for assessment, treatment, and disclosure or release of
information
- Follows collaborative care plans as appropriate
- Evaluates and modifies treatment to meet client needs
- Assigns appropriate client care to support staff; monitors and supervises client treatment and progress
- Participates in inter-professional care planning, team, and family conferences
- Prepares clients and caregivers for discharge
- Prepares documentation and reports according to College and organizational standards
- Enters workload data accurately at required frequency
- Ensures established workload targets are achieved
- Communicates effectively with the client and all stakeholders involved in their care regarding plan of
care and progress
- Coordinates services with community agencies
- Participates in physiotherapy education and counseling for clients, families and caregivers
- Supervises and evaluates allied health students
- Teaches new and revised assessment skills and treatment programs to students
- Orients, mentors, trains new staff/volunteers
- Shares newly acquired knowledge and skills with physiotherapy staff
- Participates physiotherapeutic education for other health professionals, community groups and
agencies
3. PARTICIPATES IN OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
- Adheres to all policies and procedures
- Adheres to health and safety policies, procedures and legislation
- Reports any hazards/accidents according to the policy of the Hospital and of the Occupational Health &
Safety Act
- Keeps a breast of current legislation, regulations, and professional issues
- Participates in planning, implementing and evaluating physiotherapy programs and service delivery
systems
- Participates in or leads an operational activity as requested
- Participates in day-to-day decision-making, solution-finding regarding client care with the inter-
professional team
- Participates in discipline-specific and organization committees as requested
- Participates in continuous quality improvement and accreditation activities
- Participates in all mandatory education sessions
- Participates in approved research
- Performs other duties as may be requested
Duties may vary according to practice location. Physiotherapists may be required to provide weekend
coverage.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Graduate of a recognized school of Physiotherapy
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- Experience in specified area of practice, preferred.
- Experience in student supervision, an asset.
