Heavy Equipment Operator

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Dredging and Dewatering Operational Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for day-to-day duties on site needed to complete work in a safe and timely fashion and maintain a clean work site. This may include the moving and tracking of materials with various equipment including forklifts, loaders, rock trucks, and excavators. The Heavy Equipment Operator is also expected to take part in general housekeeping of the site, including all associated Secure Energy equipment on the property. This position must also adhere to our safety program and work as a contributing member of the site team.

We are currently hiring for seasonal, temporary and full time positions.

Responsibilities:

Safety

• Ensure all Secure Energy safety policies and procedures are followed
• Be cognizant of and adhere to any site-specific safety requirements
• Partake in all safety related meetings including daily tail gates, last minute risk assessment, weekly safety meetings, etc.

Loading Material / Material Management

• Load various materials such as earth, rock, contaminated soil, sludge etc. into end dumps, dump trucks, heavy trucks, bins or train cars
• Transport material from excavation to stockpile

Operating of machinery / equipment

• Operating various types of heavy equipment
• Ensure proper attachment is used, i.e., various buckets, pallet forks, grapple forks, jib booms, rigging/hoisting;
• Loading/unloading various materials & containers onto truck &/or trailers with Tele Handler, Forklift, Skid Steer, excavator and wheel loader;
• Experience and knowledge in safe rigging and hoisting
• Must be familiar with operating and servicing equipment
• Must have a solid understanding of all power and small tools

Various Other Tasks & Expectations:

• General laboring at times, including but not limited to, digging, sweeping, monitoring, sampling and spotting for trucks
• Must be willing to workday & night shifts, up to 12 hours in duration, along with the possibility of assigned on-call shifts and/or additional overtime when deemed necessary
• Drive a crew truck to and from site as required
• Ensure slip tanks in pickup are always full when required

Site Checks

• Conduct daily pre-& post-operational checks on equipment & document in equipment logs
• Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping
• Ensure safety fences / barriers / markings are all in place
• Notify supervisor and /or repair shop of any required work to be done which is identified during course of duty
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all incidents occurring on site to the Supervisor

Qualifications:

• 5+ years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment as described above
• Minimum valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
• Basic comprehension and ability to follow Secure Energy’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements relevant to the assigned work site.
• Familiarity with dredging/centrifuging equipment and operations will be an asset
• Use of heavy equipment to mix/handle solids waste in 3-4 sided bins with stabilization material such as sawdust/woodchips will be considered an asset
• Ability to legibly complete safety documentation in an accurate and timely manner
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy materials
• Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments, and long demanding workdays
• Ability to manage weather and/or seasonal interruptions in work schedule
• Fit-for-Work each day
