Position Summary:
G-Can (GBA1-Canada) is an open-science, pre-competitive platform aiming to advance research around the GBA1 gene in neurodegenerative disorders and dementia. This platform will generate basic research models (cell lines, animals, computational) and tools (reagents, antibodies etc.), collect samples and data (genetic, transcriptomic, clinical, imaging etc.) and will share them through open-science platform established at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital).

Primary Responsibilities:
The Program Officer will work in support of administration and research within the G-Can platform, its members and collaborators. Within this role, the Program Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day operational and administrative tasks, coordinating research efforts, developing and managing of platform and project-specific budgets, drafting of milestones and progress reports, and coordinating meetings, symposia and seminars. • Lead and coordinate the administrative tasks related to the management of G-Can • Full management of the annual budget (>$1M / year) • Coordinate the research activities within the G-Can platform • Organize meetings, seminars, and symposia, if needed with coordination with The Neuro’s event team • Provide administrative support to the G-Can director for G-Can-related activities. • Provide support for the different research projects within the platform. • Oversee and manage the G-Can operational budget and the budgets and funds for each project within G-Can. • Coordinate the appointment of new staff, and renewal of service contracts. • Develop and draft research proposals, including budgets, milestones and project plans alongside the leadership of G-Can • Develop and draft protocols and different documents needed for ethics approval of projects within G-Can • Monitor the funds of specific projects and ensure their deadlines and progress reports are met. • Work in collaboration with other units within The Neuro to coordinate and perform the different projects within G-Can. • Function as record-keeper and ensure follow-up of business during platform meetings. • Communicate with the co-PIs, advisory board and steering committee to organize meetings, provide information and manage projects • Prepare presentations for information/orientation sessions, annual/report meetings and other presentations about the platform for scientific conferences and other purposes• Maintain database on research funds, staff, agreements and other operational aspects. • Undertake special projects as needed.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Master’s degree or PhD in genetics, biology or related field is an asset. Ability to coordinate and monitor multiple projects and interact with multiple collaborators and partners. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work independently and efficiently. Strong verbal and written communication in English and French is an asset.
