Who We Are

Founded in 1929, Rosser Holsteins Ltd. is a progressive, family run dairy farm currently milking over 600 Holstein cows. We raise our milking cows and young stock in our 4 barn facility. We grow most of our feed for our herd on approximately 3000 acres. The Opportunity

The Farm Maintenance Worker will organize and complete tasks related to building and machinery maintenance ensuring the repairs and maintenance are done well and in consideration of time, cost and coordination with other staff and activities in the facility. The position is full time Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Responsibilities

- Maintenance of the Dairy barn facility including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and structural repairs to a high level of operational efficiency with minimal assistance eg. Small motors, pumps, gates, minor structural repairs. Able to complete basic plumbing and electrical repairs.

- Responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment/machinery such as tractors, semi trucks and trailers, skid steers, farm implements etc to our business standards. Knowledge of how to repair these types of equipment / machinery is expected.

- Able to assess a machinery or building repair project and determine what the issue is, what parts and tools are needed and complete the repair independently with minimal assistance.

The General Skills

- Able to do the following tasks - change oil and filters, grease equipment , able to make hydraulic hose assemblies, use a hose crimper, remove / install all sizes of bearings, use /read a tape measure and calipers. Have a basic knowledge of wiring on equipment/machinery.

- Able to weld – both stick and MIG, use a cutting torch (oxy/acetylene), plasma cutter,

- Carpentry skills are an asset

- Ability to use hand and power tools safely

- Able to operate basic farm machinery such as tractors, skid steers

- Organize and complete preventative maintenance measures in regards to building systems and machinery.

- Competence to manage and record maintenance schedules, and parts and supply inventories

- Order and obtain necessary parts, supplies for repair projects

- Maintain a tidy and clean working area in the barn facility and workshops

- Dexterity and physical stamina, able to assist with moving supplies equipment and moderately heavy items

- Strong communication skills to communicate with supervisor and other staff regarding projects, parts needed, assistance needed etc

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other contractors and consultants

- Be mindful and respectful of the cattle at all times

- Able to work both indoors and outdoors in all seasons

- Trade certifications are not required

The Place

- There are two heated workshops where maintenance repairs can be done

- We have the necessary tools for all types of repairs from mechanical to welding to carpentry to plumbing to electrical. Tools are both power and hand tools.

- There is handling of oils, grease and some chemicals. Safety measures are available and in place.

- Staff lunchroom is available which includes kitchenette area, lockers and washroom.

- There are Covid protocols in place at our facility. Strongly prefer that candidates be fully vaccinated.

- Initiate and take responsibility for tasks while working in an environment where follow through is essential and problem solving is key.

- Ability to identify issues and decide on required actions; demonstrate critical thinking skills

- Able to meet deadlines when completion of a repair is immediate.

- Ability to complete tasks considering time and budget constraints

- Able to manage competing priorities

- Ability to work independently and with others

- Ensure personal safety and the safety of other staff and cattle at all times

- Takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail and quality workmanship

- Self motivated team player with a strong work ethic

- Ability to manage own time

- Not afraid of large animals as we are a dairy farm and some building repairs are done near the animals

- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle to commute to and from the farm

The Compensation
