Role and Company Overview

We are currently searching for a hybrid Medical Director for Canada responsible for leading the Medical Affairs team and is responsible for setting country medical strategy, the field direction, planning, and implementing field operations and management of the MSL team. Key deliverables for the Field Medical Affairs team include, scientific exchange/medical education, medical intelligence identification and development of medical experts as well as support of clinical development.

You will also serve as the Medical Science Liaison for Ontario. The initial focus for this aspect of the role will be the market preparation work for the launch of Feraheme. You will establish and maintain professional relationships with medical thought leaders throughout the various phases of a product’s lifecycle. You are responsible for providing non-promotional, medical support that helps to ensure the safe and effective use of Covis products, through effective scientific interactions with external stakeholders (Key Thought Leaders, Health Care Professionals, Payers, and Key Decision Makers) and providing scientific support for Covis’ internal stakeholders.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO IN THE ROLE:

Reporting to the General Manager (GM), Canada, you establish a productive work environment and positive culture, by creating trust and respect within the group and developing an atmosphere of confidence and high performance. You are the team lead responsible for the Covis Medical Science Liaison team and will coach and mentor the team and are responsible for specific customer-facing activities. You will collaborate with GM Canada to determine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and monitor team progress. You collaborate with local business leaders to lead/shape Canadian Medical affairs strategy. You will translate the overall strategies into specific goals and expected outcomes for each MSL. You will provide clinical and scientific support of activities including internal clinical input and training to commercial functions.

You work with the team to develop highest scientific standard and expertise across the MSL team to establish strong peer-to- peer collaborations, facilitate scientific exchange, and professional relationships. You will ensure competency and compliance of each MSL with regulations, guidelines, and therapeutically relevant clinical/scientific information. You provide appropriate mentoring and coaching to MSL team with respect to technical skills, business acumen/planning, and effective regional management. You engage with MSLs in the field on a quarterly basis to assess the execution of plans within their territories and to provide opportunities for field coaching. You review and analyze clinical insights collected from MSL team and share with appropriate internal stakeholders. You think strategically and assist MSLs in development of Medical Engagement Plans and MSL tools aligned with medical strategy. You collaborate with MSL team on the identification, mapping, review, and prioritization of KOLs for each MSL. Lastly, you ensure that MSLs career interests/needs are routinely discussed/assessed to ensure talent retention.

FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED:

  • An advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, DO or PhD), with a thorough grasp of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Previous experience (over 5 years preferred) as a Medical Science Liaison and previous management experience.
  • Proven track record of success, especially in the areas of thought leader engagement, territory planning, and integration with other field roles.
  • Successful record of managing large and complex projects with minimal oversight.
  • Exemplary interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex scientific, medical, and emergent business issues and modify regional commercial meetings accordingly.
  • Significant industry experience in relevant therapeutic areas of interest (hematology/oncology and/or respiratory diseases).
  • Knowledge of relevant health care systems, the evolving landscape, regulatory and payer environment
  • Possesses business and scientific acumen demonstrated by communication of complex scientific and clinical information to colleagues, academicians, and healthcare decision makers
  • Strong presentation and education skills; ability to communicate clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively
