The Opportunity
The Community Social Development Department (CSD) requires a Part-Time Facility Worker. You will be an integral member of a dedicated team responsible for regular and preventative maintenance duties for the Coordinated Care Campus and the Street Outreach Centre .
Reporting to the Property Manager, the Facility Worker is responsible for the preventative maintenance and servicing of both facilities. The Coordinated Care Campus is an innovative project that includes office and programming space for social service organizations, co-location of City departments, and much needed community supportive housing for individuals that are experienced homelessness. The Street Outreach Centre offers daytime drop in services and outreach for those experiencing homelessness.
Facility Worker will not perform any work that requires a licensed trades-person unless the worker is licensed in that trade. You will also perform other Facilities-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
You must have the ability to present yourself in a positive and professional manner through tactful communication (both verbal and written) with co-workers, customers and suppliers. You will be self-motivated, organizing his/her work including procuring required supplies, performing maintenance and repairs, and ensuring on-site coordination with customers while meeting completion deadlines.
As a Facility Worker your responsibilities would include but not limited to:

Preventative maintenance of equipment

  • Inspections, modifications & troubleshooting as required
  • Diagnosing and minor repairs (relative to your qualifications)
  • Maintain equipment in optimal operating conditions by performing routine maintenance
  • Filter changes and lubrication of equipment as detailed in the PM program
  • Refer major mechanical or technical problems to your Supervisor

As a Facility worker you will exercise a considerable degree of independent judgment in the fulfillment of the Preventative Maintenance schedules and coordination of required contracted services (ie: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.). You will achieve above average results by thinking outside the box and by continuously improving your skills and knowledge of new methods & technologies in the facility maintenance field.

You Bring
Facility Worker requires a thorough knowledge of basic facility maintenance practices to perform a wide variety of tasks related to the servicing, maintaining and repair to City facilities and equipment, both indoor and outdoor. This includes a variety of minor construction/renovation tasks. Performs additional Facilities related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a valid Alberta Driver’s License (Class 5 minimum)
  • Completion of Building Maintenance Level II, Building Operator Level II, or the technical equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Standard First Aid Certification, WHMIS, and TDG within 3 months of job appointment
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School Diploma
  • Physical Abilities to perform the duties of the position

Assets related to this position include experience as a:

  • Maintenance experience working in hotels, hospitals or other institutions
  • Comfortable working in environment with individuals with complex needs including mental health & addictions
  • Working Knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, machinery and general building management systems.

Hours
35 hours per week

Salary/Wage
Pay rate as per CUPE Collective Agreement - $34.48 per hour.
