This is engineering, utilities information and clerical work. An employee of this class receives and processes applications for areas including sewer, water, design, environmental, traffic, inspection and other permits. Determines and collects fees; issues permits and receipts; collects, monitors and issues refund of damage deposits. Gathers records of utilities such as sanitary and storm sewers, water supply lines, natural gas lines, pipelines, underground electric lines and service lines; provides to Municipal Superintendents and Forepersons, building plan checkers, architects, contractors, builders and general public from profile ledgers, sewer and water records, utilities information such as offset distance, depth, sewer or water connection location, pipeline type, direction of true North, street names, distance from manhole and manhole number; as required, provides sketch of properties copied from strip map; answers information requests at the counter, by telephone or occasionally by letter. Plan check of properties for sewer and water connections prior to finished road construction; forwards service requests to field forces on properties requiring installation of sewer and/or water connections. Processes and distributes departmental incoming and outgoing mail; answers calls and relays information, answers enquiries or takes messages for personnel, and performs general typing tasks as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 plus general office, recordkeeping and public contact experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of departmental policies and procedures related to the work. Ability to make routine decisions according to established policies and procedures. Ability to accurately and efficiently maintain a variety of records; to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with the public and Municipal personnel at the counter or by telephone when answering enquiries, forwarding information or explaining department rules and regulations; to use related software applications including databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

Pilot Recruitment:
This position is posted under the terms of the 2016 Memorandum of Agreement to enable the senior capable applicant to be confirmed in the position, subject to the successful passing of skills tests applicable to the classification and providing that there are no current performance or safety infractions.

This is a temporary full time position until December 31, 2023.
