Department head – Production (fittings)

Under the authority of the director of operations, we are looking for a candidate to fill a position of department head of the Fittings Department at our St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu plant. We are looking for a change agent who can exercise leadership in a constantly evolving company, while being committed to helping achieve the department’s health and safety, quality, and productivity objectives. The department head will be responsible for the operational aspects of the Fittings Department. More specifically, he will have to plan, organize, coordinate, and improve production-related activities while providing a safe work environment. We are looking for a candidate with communication skills to motivate and empower his team and employees.

Your responsibilities

  • Promote, influence and ensure the health and safety of employees.
  • Ensure effective communication to your team (daily/weekly/monthly).
  • Provide the support required to adequately meet daily health and safety demands.
  • Direct and control the human and material resources assigned to him.
  • Ensure compliance with plant rules while respecting the collective agreement in force.
  • Improve the operational systems and processes to increase our performance in achieving the plan.
  • Support the manufacturing operations on a daily basis (problem solving, coaching).
  • Participate in the management of the continuous improvement projects.
  • Assume responsibility for the budgets of the box and fitting sectors.
  • Control the manufacturing process and obtain results.
  • Develop, monitor, and control the various performance indicators.
  • Establish performance objectives for production teams in order to achieve the objectives.
  • Ensure the continuity of the production flow.
  • Participate in the projects to re-evaluate the production tools (adaptation of new products, ergonomics, etc.).
  • Participate in the plant management committee.

Your background

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial) or in operations management, or equivalent in experience.
  • Have 10 to 15 years of experience as a production manager in a unionized plant.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, TPM, SMED and Six Sigma.
  • Master the main computerized management systems.
  • Bilingualism (English, French).
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to influence your team.
  • Ability to create and maintain partnerships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Autonomous, highly organized, able to manage several priorities and projects.
  • Rigorous in all stages of the management and performance of its sector.
  • Ability to manage and resolve emergencies and make decisions quickly.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
