Job Description

Data Steward, Finance

The Finance Data Steward will develop and execute controls to improve financial data quality across the company in coordination with Finance and IT in identifying new processes and procedures with regards to data flow and requirements or improvements to existing processes and procedures. The Finance Data Steward will work directly with business data owners, subject matter experts, business analysts, technology staff, architects, and delivery teams to ensure efforts support the company’s success and promote industry best practices in data management. The Finance Data Steward is responsible for providing tools, expertise and training to staff who define, produce, and use data to improve the accuracy and integrity of the managed information delivered to internal and external users. The individual will be responsible for defining and cataloging data elements critical to Finance.

Performance Expectations

Define and catalogue critical data elements within the Linamar’s financial databases. This includes supporting multiple data categories and interacting with individuals supporting each category.

Work on documenting key data sources and contents in ERP tables to be leveraged for automation of data flows and process improvements.

Develop and document data flows and data quality policies and procedures.

Recommend consistent business naming standards for use across the Linamar; develop data definitions, standard calculations, and business rules.

Communicate proper understanding and use of metadata requirements for critical data elements to Data Owners.

Assess and report on the quality of data across the Finance organization to Finance Executive Team. Participate in projects to improve data quality and data integrity.

Maintain an efficient process to ensure accurate information is delivered to users. Recommend and develop process improvements with data flow and quality.

Coordinate with business and technology partners to participate in the Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse development effort to analyze, map, and define requirements. Ensure the developed outcome meets the business needs.

Collaborate with IT staff to develop strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition, and archive processes.

May perform system administration duties for assigned configurable enterprise systems.

Perform Other Functions As Assigned.

Credentials

Bachelor of the Arts/Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Computer Science degree in business, accounting or equivalent.

Minimum five years progressively responsible experience in Finance, Business Analysis, System Analysis, Data Analysis, Data Management and/or Data Stewardship; preferably in Finance.

Desired Characteristics

Strong analytical skills and knowledge of data management best practices. Ability to recognize and analyze data patterns and discrepancies.

Excellent organizational, time management, multitasking, and flexible problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently or with a team as needed. Is willing to cross train and cover for others as needed.

Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and an understanding of ERP systems and the structure of data tables.

Knowledge of ad hoc reporting and analytics tools. Ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
