Applications are invited for the position of Human Resources Assistant with the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB).
  • This is a temporary opportunity of up to 7-months. A permanent appointment may result from this opportunity.
  • We offer flexible work arrangements, including the opportunity to volunteer to telework (with conditions) as set out in applicable employer policies. For this position, as per current telework agreement, remote working is available up to three days per week.

The Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) consists of the Assistant Deputy Minister’s office and three divisions: Licensing, Compliance and Enforcement, and Corporate and Strategic Services. The LCRB regulates British Columbia’s liquor industries and private retail non-medical cannabis industries, which include restaurants, bars and pubs serving liquor, liquor manufacturers, liquor retail stores, special events involving liquor, private cannabis retail stores, and cannabis marketing.

The Corporate and Strategic Services Division has fourwork units; Policy and Legislation, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, Planning and Analytics, and Management Services (Financial Services, Administration and Freedom of Information (FOI), Facilities and Fleet, and Human Resource (HR) Operations).

The Human Resources (HR) Operations Team ensures HR projects and initiatives are integrated and well supported across the branch. The HR Operations Team provides LCRB managers and supervisors with advice and consultation on a variety of areas including staffing and recruitment, staff training and onboarding, time and leave, and employee engagement.

Reporting to the Manager, HR Operations, the Human Resources Assistant provides assistance and administrative support including recruitment support and guidance regarding the correct interpretation of human resource management policies and procedures. The position is an integral part of the support team in the Management Services Office and is required to liaise regularly with LCRB staff, Executive, and BC Public Services Agency staff. This position requires effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, tact and diplomacy.

  • A self-starter that has an interest in expanding their knowledge and experience in human resources.
  • Effective professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and to use discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong, positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Previous administrative/clerical experience in an office environment.
  • Experience in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets and/or other standard computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Job Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Administrative/clerical experience working in a professional office environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets and other standard computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preference May Be Given To Applicants Who Have
  • Experience assisting with human resource administrative functions, payroll and leave management including consulting with the appropriate agency for guidance, submitting paperwork and verifying information.
  • One (1) or more years’ administrative/clerical experience working in a professional office environment
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in public or business administration, or equivalent coursework.
