As a summer student, you will be given meaningful, productive and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. As a Student Researcher working in Community Planning you will support climate resilience efforts to improve building energy performance in Calgary through energy labelling and improved energy performance target setting and monitoring. Your primary duties will include:
  • Process and analyze data collected from the building permit application process to assist development of:
    • Targets for energy efficiency improvement in residential homes.
    • Key performance indicators.
    • Tecommendation for data management system improvements.
    • Approaches to potential incentives.
  • Process and analyze data collected from the development permit application process to track climate resilience measures proposed through the development permit process.
  • Conduct best practice research and key informant interviews to support building energy efficiency and building energy labelling program development.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a degree program related to Architecture, Architectural Technology, Urban Planning, or Urban Studies.
  • Previous coursework in research methodology and data analysis is required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel) is required.
  • Experience with project work and organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage time and resources.
  • Good communication skills, being able to engage with multiple audiences and stakeholders.
  • Effective research and analytical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to take initiative and be adaptable, working independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive team environment.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2022
