Associate Investigator Process and Application Development

We are looking for an energetic person that works well in a team environment, who is passionate about their work and highly motivated to achieve. This person will take on the role of Associate Investigator in a research organization focused on process and application development in the chemical and materials sector.

The individual will have the responsibility to move projects forward in a way that ensures the team is meeting timelines and milestones established through our business processes.

Recent graduates and experienced candidates will be considered.

Process and Application Development.

In this role, the candidate will work with a technical team to conduct experimental programs in laboratory apparatus or in pilot plant processes to establish basic data for scale-up and product development.

Duties and Responsibilities;
  • Manage the supply chain and inventory of key chemicals and materials required to complete experiments in a timely fashion
  • Ensure that process and test equipment is serviced and maintained and is ready to operate when needed.
  • Specifying new or modifying existing equipment required to meet project objectives while providing the leadership to safely commission and operate this equipment.
  • Planning, organizing, and executing experiments in a team environment with guidance provided by a senior scientist and/or engineer.
  • A broad working knowledge of various chemical and physical test protocols, such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, Chromatography (GC and HPLC), and NMR are needed for this position as the successful candidate will be required to manage analytical testing for all raw materials, intermediates and finished products.
  • Strong documentation skills that include both operating parameters and experimental observations.
  • Exceptional communication skills are required to ensure that the candidate can report findings to their team efficiently and effectively

Qualifications;
  • Technical diploma or degree
  • Strong leadership and team skills
  • An understanding of Provincial and Municipal rules and regulations pertinent to DuPont operations
  • Experience in pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up of process development units.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, process, production chemistry, structural, electrical, instrumentation, control systems and operations.
  • Working knowledge in chemical (GC, LC, FTIR, NMR, etc.), physical (density, DSC, TGA, etc.) and mechanical (theology, tensile, compression, shear, etc.) property testing methods applied to development activities
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Strong planning and reporting skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Experience in projects deploying novel technology.
  • Ability to establish networks through customers, contractors and suppliers.
  • Ability to read and understand process and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
