Accounting Specialist

Job Summary

Reporting to the Sector Controller, the Accounting Specialist will bring experience in the preparation of month-end and year-end journal entries and working papers and the reconciliation of accounting records. You will provide support for all aspects of general accounting following best practices and principles. The Accounting Specialist is responsible maintaining complete and accurate accounting records, assisting with routine accounting duties, and providing prompt, courteous responses to inquiries from clients, vendors, and lenders. The ideal candidate should be committed to providing efficient, reliable support to accounting department members, other departments, and external parties. They should be trustworthy, thorough, and courteous with excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation the Sector’s Period End Statements, Quarterly Financial Packages and Year End Audit working papers within set timelines.
• Assist with the preparation of the Sector’s annual budget.
• Providing analysis of monthly, quarterly, and year-end results to management.
• Working with operations to provide support in preparation and analysis of production and costing reports.
• Performing various general ledger and subledger account reconciliations.
• Preparing and entering recurring and correcting entries as necessary.
• Performing monthly inventory variance analysis, manufacturing variance analysis, and labour variance analysis.
• Maintenance of Internal Compliance Checklist, ensuring reconciliations and standards set forth by the Company are followed and maintained.
• Effectively utilize various tools to present results/reports to senior management and make necessary recommendations regarding financial and job costing information.
• Represent the organization in a professional, positive and timely manner when in contact with customers and suppliers (both internal and external).
• Other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements

• Minimum post-secondary education in the accounting field (university degree or community college diploma with a concentration in accounting, or equivalent).
• Willingness to pursue a CPA designation.
• 1-3 years’ experience in the accounting field would be an asset.

Business Requirements

• A strong sense of urgency and ability to balance priorities without sacrificing deadlines.
• High attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to handle changing priorities in a deadline driven environment.
• Strong knowledge of MS Excel is required
• Exposure to JD Edwards One World would be considered an asset

Cultural Requirements

• Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with management and peers
• Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
