The ICES Kidney, Dialysis and Transplantation (KDT) program is seeking a motivated Epidemiologist to work collaboratively with ICES researchers and staff, applying research methodology in the context of health services administrative data. ICES KDT operates out of ICES Western, a satellite site of ICES in Toronto which officially launched in 2012. ICES Western is located within the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The Epidemiologist is an employee of LHSC and Lawson Health Research Institute.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate may be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Independently developing, planning, leading and implementing study protocols, analytic plans and project initiation documents under the direction of the principal investigator or scientist;
  • Providing advice to junior staff, PIs, stakeholders and trainees on study designs and analytic plans;
  • Leading development of comprehensive literature searches and/or reviews (includes mentorship);
  • Interpreting and writing results for presentations, reports & scientific manuscripts for academic publication to the project team and others;
  • Assisting with the preparation of grant applications, including drafting grant proposals, preparing budgets and updating investigator CVs;
  • Assisting with REB applications and data sharing agreements to link external data to administrative data holdings at ICES;
  • Coordinating projects and facilitating communication between investigators, trainees and analysts;
  • Contributing to a body of knowledge around variable definitions, analytical approaches or limitations in our data and resolving data issues as they arise;
  • Performing other duties as appropriate and necessary for the efficient functioning of the team;
  • Continuing to maintain and expand professional skills.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong desire to function in an environment that requires constant adaptation to changing organizational needs and re-prioritizing workload to accommodate;
  • Extreme comfort when expected to produce high levels of output;
  • Functions best in an environment that requires independence and where expectations are that staff understand risk management;
  • Understanding of health services research concepts and knowledge of health administrative data and data holding at ICES;
  • Ability to apply statistical and epidemiological methods/principles to health services research;
  • Experience working with a diverse team and building public health, research, academic, institutional or professional networks;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence as required when interacting with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in epidemiology, health services research, public health, biostatistics or a related field;
  • Three plus years of experience in a health facility or health research environment, with similar involvement in identifying or working with administrative data sources, designing research studies, procuring data, preparing reports, and editing with scientific rigour.

Immunization Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella(Chicken Pox). In addition candidates will need to provide documentation of Tuberculosis Skin testing and a completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines).
