The Supervisor, Engineering (Maintenance Planning) is responsible for organizing resources to develop, and implement maintenance programs and plans for both distribution and stations assets and equipment. The Supervisor actively supports the execution of maintenance programs and plans within the organization to enable the achievement of a high level of reliability and efficiency in the distribution system and the mitigation of safety, environmental, financial, regulatory, and legal risks. As part of Toronto Hydro’s corrective works process, the Supervisor is expected to lead the Work Request Desk and engage closely with the Maintenance Management Office and execution counterparts to facilitate timely action for identified deficiencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Leads the Maintenance Planning team, comprised of designated technical, professional staff and students to develop short and long term maintenance plans
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and performance and attendance management feedback to staff to ensure safety and achieve maximum productivity
  • Leads the Work Request Desk function within the team and collaborates with key stakeholders effectively to address asset deficiencies in a timely manner to safeguard and maintain Toronto Hydro’s interests and objectives. Actively manages the financial and risk impacts of reactive and corrective work
  • Coordinates maintenance planning functions for all distribution and stations assets, including preventative, predictive, corrective and emergency maintenance programs
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to review processes and systems, and brings forward recommended changes and innovations for the purposes of continuous improvement and utility modernization
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance program and the achievement of broader Asset Performance Management objectives, including risk modeling and program optimization
  • Leads cross-functional teams to drive effective communication and collaboration to ensure targets of the maintenance program are achieved, reviewing such items as program attainment, budgets and emerging issues
  • Oversees effective implementation and continuous improvement of the Condition Based Risk Management (“CBRM”) methodology (formerly Asset Condition Assessment) and collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding and use of CBRM outputs and other maintenance-based risk information sets in system planning and decision-making
  • Supports the regulatory and investment planning teams in the development of regulatory evidence and submissions of rate applications to the regulator.
  • Supports the development and implementation of training related to maintenance programs
  • Oversees the preparation of reports, management of scorecards, as well as provision of status updates and ad hoc reporting as required by Senior Management.
  • Leads safety meetings and carries out safety responsibilities in accordance with current safety performance standards, and participates in the development of improved safety programs
  • Implements plans and processes for proactive and consistent safety and environment programs
  • Participates on internal committees and project teams as required on a wide variety of business initiatives
  • Maintains business relationships/alliances with industry stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering - Electrical or Mechanical preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in a utility preferred; direct experience in asset management or asset operations is required
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive leadership and/or project leadership experience
  • Graduate level education (Masters in Engineering or MBA) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the operations within the organization – including knowledge of standards, procurement, maintenance, and system reliability.
  • Knowledge of the electrical distribution system and equipment.
  • Understanding of regulatory obligations and conditions of operating license as identified by the regulator.
  • Knowledge of utility planning, design and operation.
  • Knowledge of industry accepted standards and best practices for Asset Management
  • Knowledge of program budgets and expenditures
  • Knowledge of process design practices
  • Strong understanding of risk management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Well developed project management skills with demonstrated ability to schedule and prioritize work and bring projects in on time and on budget.
  • Strong stakeholder and change management skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office suite of applications and database management
