Security Guard


Permanent Part-time position (varying posted shifts and days/week)


$21.04 / hour (probationary rate)


Security Guards at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) are committed to providing high-level proactive and reactive security services to the ROM for the overall safety and security of all employees, visiting public, artifacts, and facilities.


A Security Guard must use tack and diplomacy to defuse high tension situations, which could impact the safety and security of ROM employees and the public, as well as impact ongoing employee/employer relations and the reputation of the organization.


As a part-time security guard, you are provided with a free uniform, a shoe allowance (after successfully completing the probationary period), on-site training, and the opportunity to work more than 24 hours a week (based on the needs of the ROM). Permanent part-time positions are also eligible for vacation time and a full benefit package (including medical, dental, life insurance and pension).


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and operate Alarm, CCTV, & Access Control systems.
  • Working knowledge of control room duties and functions such as dispatching, access control systems and the use of CCTV.
  • Alarm response and investigation.
  • Conduct regular building patrols and/or assigned galleries patrols.
  • Perform crowd control duties as required.
  • Parcel and package inspections.
  • Conduct detailed investigations and report all findings and recommendations regarding incidents or accounts that occur on ROM property. This includes infractions of any applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws or ROM Policies and Procedures.
  • Respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls; assess the situation and liaise with emergency services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of Law Enforcement/Police Foundations Diploma or degree.
  • One full (1) year of previous security experience, or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Security Guards License which is in good standing in accordance with PSIS Act.
  • First aid and CPR Level “C” and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification.
  • Must possess valid Smart Serve certification.
  • Must have knowledge and previous experience using CCTV/Fire Panel/Access Control System.
  • Knowledge of emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Must be able to work independently and/or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working in a hospitality setting is an asset.
  • Must be physically fit as the Job entails standing on your feet for a long period of time.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work with a high degree of honesty and integrity.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic mail.
  • Working knowledge of security operational procedures.
  • Must have Green Patch safety footwear to be worn at all times while on duty.
