Position Overview

The Department of Parking and Transportation within Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Parking, Field Operation.

Under the direction of the Project and Facilities Supervisor, the Field Operations Support position is part of the Parking team that oversees 118 pay stations and 50+ Unicard POS terminals on 3 campuses. This position must support areas of technical service, daily maintenance and upkeep of both facilities and automation equipment. The position is part of a field operations team but is expected to be an independent thinker and work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, make quick decisions to restore parking facilities services and POS systems. The majority of this role requires working outdoors, through all weather conditions. The position is physically demanding including work such as snow and ice removal from paystation pads and parkade ramps, lifting of equipment weighing 80-100 lbs and various other field-related duties. Normal working hours are 37.5 hours per week.

This position will work as part of a team to maintain all parking equipment, Unicard POS systems, structures, parking lots and automated field equipment. Provide day-to-day cleaning and general upkeep of parking facilities. Ensures all equipment utilized by both the public and the field operations team operates safely and efficiently. The position will also be responsible for the daily collection of pay station revenues. This position ensures the efficient and effective operation of POS systems, access controlled and automation systems including problem-solving, troubleshooting and repairing systems as issues arise. The team is also responsible for the installation and upkeep of parking lot signage. Assist with set up for parking-related events for the campus community. Changes and updates to parking systems are frequent and this position will be expected to assist with all aspects of field operations.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Working with and setting priorities to ensure work is completed on time.
  • Responsible for the reliable and safe operation of equipment assigned.
  • Ensures public areas (ie pay station pads) are kept ice/snow-free and generally clean.
  • Collection of parking pay station and Unicard terminals.
  • Responds to field operations alarms and issues (pay machines, overhead doors, sensors etc.)
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot Unicard POS systems as issues arise within vendor locations.
  • Pleasantly and respectfully interacts with co-workers, supervisor and members of the University community.
  • Ensures vehicles and equipment supplied by the University are used for their proper purpose and are maintained in good order.
  • Ensures that the supervisor is kept informed of activities and progress of work.
  • Ensures all required safety procedures are followed when carrying out tasks.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience maintaining electronic equipment in outdoor or field environments.
  • Electronic diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Proven skills in working effectively within a small self-directed team.
  • Experience and knowledge with Parking equipment, POS and related computer systems would be beneficial.
  • Access control software and/or hardware experience would be considered an asset.
  • Previous work in a parking or transportation field would be advantageous.
  • Must be comfortable using ladders or scaffolding to perform work at higher elevations.
  • Must be able to physically lift equipment 80-100 1bs as necessary.
  • A valid class 5 Alberta operator license with less than 7 demerits is required.
  • Applicants must be bondable and able to perform physically demanding work.
