The Opportunity

Integrated Risk Management (IRM) is a corporate risk management department has direct oversight accountabilities for Operational and Market Risk Management as well as ownership of economic forecasting, stress testing conditional credit modeling; risk adjusted pricing oversight and the annual ICAAP exercise.

The Manager Liquidity and Market Risk will directly support the Senior Manager of Liquidity and Market Risk in the second line oversight of liquidity and market risk for banking.

The primary responsibilities for this role include establishing the 2nd line of defense review framework on Treasury Liquidity Reporting, providing oversight and challenge on Treasury Liquidity assumptions and enhancing the independent EWI monitoring process in Risk Management team.

Specific Accountabilities
  • Supporting the Senior Manager of Liquidity and Market Risk in providing oversight on liquidity and market risk management, FTP (Funds Transfer Pricing) – including oversight and challenge of assumptions made by the Treasury department, stability of funding needs and market analysis of liquid asset portfolio.
  • Developing and enhancing 2nd line of defense review framework and policy for regulatory and management liquidity reporting.
  • Initiating and establishing EWIs that effectively monitor the liquidity risk and interest rate risk of the bank.
  • Assisting in the preparing materials for executive committee for liquidity and interest rate risk.
  • Performing ad hoc analysis and developing risk reporting as requested by management.
  • Supporting the development of interest rate models for measuring risk in the bank’s Net Interest Income (NII) and Economic Value of Equity (EVE) based on the duration and cash flow profile maintained by the Treasury function in the banking book; models should reflect prevailing market volatility and pricing.
  • Working with the Senior Manager of Liquidity and Market Risk to analyze risk results for NII and EVE.
  • Monitoring risk exposures, performing analytics and reporting of changes to liquidity and market risk positions over reporting periods; addressing and / or escalating any issues.
  • Developing and executing regulatory and ad-hoc liquidity stress testing; providing analysis to senior management relating to risk mitigation.
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation (i.e. stress testing methodologies) and operational procedures (i.e. Standard Operating Procedures) are in place; maintaining processes relating to data acquisition, analytical and reporting processes.
  • Ensuring methodologies for understanding and measuring risks remain current to industry best practices.
Skills And Competencies That Will Take You Further
  • Experience in business and/or technical writing with clear and concise written communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills. Candidates must be able to write clear, coherent sentences without grammatical errors and should be able to summarize technical concepts in writing for a non-technical audience.
  • Highly organized and a strong attention to detail.
  • A natural organizer with time leadership skills, able to independently manage multiple work streams without constant supervision.
  • Independently motivated and able to take the initiative to progress projects when guidance from their leader is not available.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative work environment .
Foundational Knowledge And Experience To Grow From

Education
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in business management, quantitative finance, financial engineering or a related field.
  • Professional designation in CFA and FRM are assets.
Professional Experience
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience working in risk management of large financial institutions, preferable in Treasury Liquidity Risk Management area.
  • Familiar with OSFI LAR and the implication in liquidity reporting.
  • Proficiency in SQL, MS Office.
  • Proven ability in preparing clear and concise technical documentation for complex financial models.
  • Experience in presenting highly technical concepts and detailed results to senior management.
The Extras:
  • Experience in behavioral modelling for banking products (loan commitments, prepayment behavior, non-maturity deposit modeling)
  • Experience in balance sheet forecast and funding plan at a large financial institution
  • Experience working with QRM
  • Working knowledge in financial modelling with R, Matlab, SAS
