Hydra Energy is growing! We are a small, but expanding tech company looking for a Bookkeeper/Jr. Accountant to assist the Controller in processing and maintaining bookkeeping/accounting functions.

Currently we are using Xero Accounting software, as such experience with Xero would be an asset but not necessary as long as you have experience in any cloud base accounting software. The company will be converting to an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) System in the near future. Experience in tracking government grants, such as SRED. IRAP, and others will also be a benefit.

As a small company, we embrace the relaxed environment and mentality, but still focused on the task at hand. We are located on Annacis (Delta), thus transportation is required to reach our office.

About You

While having a working knowledge of the cleantech and environmental space would be great, a willingness to learn is the most important thing. Being able to work independently and proactively is key to the role. As a start-up things don’t always look the same day-to-day, so being a flexible thinker and problem solver is necessary. Hydra values creative thinking and consistent results. We are looking for someone who isn’t afraid to learn new things, or admit when they don’t know the answer.

You are experienced in full cycle bookkeeping including A/R, A/P, and accounts reconciliation. At minimum you hold a diploma or degree in accounting. Experience in admin, accounting, and office responsibilities is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.

The Role

  • Data entry involving day-to-day accounting transactions
  • Assist with accounts receivable by posting cheques and entering payments
  • Assist with accounts payable by entering transactions, expenses, and related charges
  • Assist with visa and bank reconciliations
  • Assist with preparing monthly financial statements
  • Answer emails & manage Google inbox
  • Answer customer and vendor inquiries
  • Perform ad hoc administrative duties as required

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Accounting
  • 1-2 years experience in Bookkeeping
  • Experience with Cloud Based Accounting Software
  • Organisation and time management skills
  • Interest in pursuing accounting as a career path
  • Comfortable with computer technology & ability to troubleshoot
  • Strong knowledge of GSuite
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • High level of integrity and reliability
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Independent worker

This position is partially remote, you will be required to come to the office for the first week of training, and then move to two to three days per week in the office, and the balance remote. You are welcome to be in the office full time if you prefer.
