CNIB invites you to build a career as unique as you! We are currently searching for a Coach, SmartLife & Independent Living Technology! Reporting to the Manager, CNIB Programs, NS & PEI, the Coach, SmartLife & Independent Living Technology will provide one-on-one training on cutting-edge technology, apps and innovative products designed to enhance independence. They will also oversee the demonstration and sale of products in the SmartLife Centre in Charlottetown, as well as providing all necessary administrative support to ensure the office’s successful operation!

Your impact at CNIB
  • Through consultations, training sessions and hands-on demonstrations, introduce and teach people with sight loss how to use assistive technology, apps and innovative products designed to enhance independence.
  • Recruit, train, engage and actively manage a team of volunteer Tech Mates and SmartLife Assistant Coaches.
  • Develop implementation plans to maximize the success of the accessible technology in CNIB programs and in your local market; seek to grow existing CNIB programs in accessible technology.
  • Develop partnerships in the technology sector to better support the needs of the client, as well as developing and delivering new programs to those who are blind or partially sighted.
  • Assist with the management of the program’s budget.
  • Operates a point-of-sale system to process, track shop sales and manage inventory.
  • Oversee the running of the office including coordinating with cleaners, submitting financial deposits, etc.
  • Conduct data entry to track client participation, while also registering clients and updating their contact and demographic information.
Who You Are
  • Knowledgeable about accessible and adaptive technology and products designed for people with sight loss.
  • Excellent analytical, problem definition and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to plan and deliver clear communications; you’ll predominantly be working with seniors!
  • Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills; proactive in initiating multiple projects on an ongoing basis and able to work to concurrent and/or conflicting deadlines.
  • Professional attitude, results oriented, strategic, and flexible.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing vision loss.
  • Adept at thinking strategically to aid in realizing solutions for challenges specific to each individual.
  • Effectively demonstrates understanding and championing of diversity and accessibility issues.
We Want To Hear From You If You Have
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in program development, office administration, or technology training.
  • Proficient in using virtual platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Experience using accessible and adaptive technology is considered an asset.
  • Experience in teaching or instructing people, especially seniors.
  • Experience with program/project development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience working with and training/supporting volunteers.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to sight loss is considered an asset.
Work Environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings as needed).
  • Moderate travel will be required; a driver’s license is preferred, but not required.
