Position Overview

The QA Technologist will have a Bachelor Science or diploma (food science or a related field) and minimum 1 year related experience (e.g. QC/QA Technologists, Co-op, internship or research project). The QA Technologist will act as the HACCP Coordinator/SQF Practitioner and will assist the QA manager in maintaining record keeping for pre-requisite and HACCP programs to comply with regulatory requirements and SQF standard.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, verify and validate HACCP system and prerequisite programs to meet SQF standards.
  • Coordinate in Food Safety Meetings.
  • Ensure that the facility and food safety and quality program are in compliance with SQF standards.
  • Collaborate with Production, QA Manager and QA Technologists to develop and implement HACCP systems that comply with regulatory requirements and SQF standard in order to produce high quality and safe food.
  • Deal with customer complaints and corrective action report and perform mock recalls
  • Participate in shelf life studies and conduct label check for product development
  • Conduct sensory evaluation on retention sample product and finished product
  • Conduct new employee and yearly GMP training for plant personnel
  • Conduct environmental microbial swabbing and product microbial testing
  • Verify Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Critical Control Point (CCP) records
  • Maintain supplier approval program. Questionnaire review and approval.
  • Handle chemicals used in the plant for cleaning and solution preparation for CCPs and QCP verification.Manage the the environmental monitoring program, including the microbiology
  • Maintain the Document Control and Record Control programs. analysis.
  • Pest control verification.
  • Perform internal audits.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree or diploma (food science or related field)
  • At least 2 years experience in Quality Management and Food Safety within the food industry.
  • Previous HACCP experience is required.
  • Previous SQF experience is an asset and preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as work effectively within a team.
  • Positive, can-do attitude, and excellent communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, internet.
