The Opportunity

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Lethbridge Pork Human Resources team, the Human Resources Advisor provides Human Resources and Labour Relations services and acts as an employee champion and change agent to our specialty pork manufacturing plant employing a total of 450 salaried and unionized employees operating on a day shift schedule. This individual will be energetic, results driven and have a strong desire to deliver exceptional client focus partnerships.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:
  • Provide guidance, support and coaching to Managers and frontline Supervisors regarding Human Resources policies, practices and collective bargaining agreement
  • Investigate, resolve and track employee complaints and work-related issues
  • Support and Implement process improvements, tools and technology to enhance the HR processes
  • Execute and facilitate training and coaching initiatives to assigned client groups
  • Deliver and ensure the smooth execution of employee recognition and employee engagement programs
  • Represent Company in Joint Labour Relations meetings with local Union executive and representative(s)
  • Facilitate grievance resolution process; and act as a resource/support to Human Resources Manager during subsequent steps (i.e. mediation, arbitration)
  • Partner, assist and coach supervisors in determining appropriate corrective action, conflict resolution, and performance management techniques for their employees
  • Advise and assist supervisors in interpreting and applying various HR-related standard operating procedures, Company policies, and the appropriate provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Ensure the job posting process is in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Generate weekly reports regarding turnover and trends of hourly staff issues
  • Ensure the plant is in compliance with applicable legislation and corporate HR standards.
  • Track, maintain and report plant-specific labour and employee relations data and metrics.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

What You Will Bring
  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management, Business, Commerce or a related discipline
  • 3 – 5 years previous HR experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • CHRP designation is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural setting is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of SAP and/or KRONOS is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills
  • Solid working knowledge of Alberta employment and labour legislation and practices
  • Demonstrated computer expertise in MS Office programs
  • Comfortable in fast-paced settings demanding a high level of efficiency
