Johnson & Johnson Janssen and DePuy Synthes Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is recruiting for an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager, located in Markham, ON, Canada.

A strong leader responsible for the EH&S infrastructure and development of the EH&S team. This position will partner with company management to develop strategic plans, complete and direct project and programs crafted to ensure attainment of company’s goals relative to EH&S outcomes. Will drive, review and report progress against these strategies and goals. Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and the ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies.

The EH&S Manager will provide technical expertise on safety, environmental, ergonomics, and occupational health program components. In addition, this manager will own the establishment, maintenance, and improvement of robust processes to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and control EHS risk in the Office, Deliver and remote workplaces. They will drive action plan completion, provide technical support to ensure regulatory compliance and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) enterprise standards compliance, and ensure J&J goals are delivered. They will support EHS audits and inspections, recommendations, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide EH&S support to Ontario, Canada facilities, other assigned offices, deliver facilities, remote workers, dangerous goods transportation and fleet drivers within the region.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures to ensure identification, assessment, and control of EH&S risks and compliance with standards including emergency response and permit to work processes.
  • Facilitate the Joint Health and Safety Committee(s) and Sustainability Team(s) and provide mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Complete annual waste audits and submit the results to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
  • Lead emergency response team(s) and ensure that sites are following WSIB requirements.
  • Perform ergonomic workstation assessments and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Compile and report monthly, quarterly, and annual EH&S metrics.
  • Prepare and submit compliance reports to local, state, and national agencies.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver EH&S training.
  • Coordinate the execution of inspections, Gemba walks with multidisciplinary teams to identify the level of compliance and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate and report incidents that occurred on the premises and follow up on efficiency of corrective and preventive actions to prevent future recurrence.
  • Implement strategies and tactics to improve the culture of safety, health, and environmental care in offices, applying J&J methodologies.
  • Prepare audit reports/corrective action plans and collaborate with customers to implement corrective measures.
  • Develop EH&S objectives for the assigned programs - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their plan to management via dashboards & reports.
  • Support and facilitate site EH&S committees/teams to ensure implementation of programs.
  • Maintain the EH&S Compliance Calendar of all Departmental, Regulatory and J&J standard events and target dates.
  • Implement and maintain the change process to identify, establish and verify controls to prevent impacts to the safety and environment.
  • Support and implement Fleet Safety (SAFE Fleet) standards and practices leading to the prevention and reduction of injuries and collisions associated with driving company vehicles or for business across the Canadian companies.
  • Prepare a robust strategy for implementing, leading, and executing plans, goals, and actions in alignment with fleet safety standards and local requirements to reduce crashes and SIFs with set targets
  • Establish and manage the fleet safety suppliers and budget while monitoring performance though regular fleet safety audits
  • Influence J&J Canadian SAFE FLEET Champions, Executive leadership, HR, and drivers to achieve goals, implement effective solutions based on annual company goals

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or another technical field is required. A Master of Science degree in an EH&S related field is preferred.

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • 8-10 years of EH&S experience.
  • Experience in building, leading, and maintaining EH&S programs.
  • Knowledge of federal and state EH&S regulations.
  • Strong industrial hygiene, safety and construction safety background.
  • Classroom and virtual training skills.
  • Experience in identifying, evaluating and controlling EH&S hazards.

Preferred:

  • 7+ years of leading teams or direct people management.
  • Certifications such as a Professional Engineer, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist or Black Belt business certification
  • Laboratory safety, machine safety and contractor safety program implementation.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory issues and provide solutions for remediation.

Other:

  • Requires up to 10% domestic travel
