In order to improve access to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks’ environmental and scientific data, we need you to bring an outstanding ability to manage and communicate complex technical information and provide specialized applications, training and advice within our high profile ministry program area.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
  • Assess integrity of geospatial data, techniques with geoprocessing scripts
  • Design, advise, and provide custom web applications, queries, data management and programming requirements
  • Develop and deliver training content/help related to applications and projects delivered
  • Develop and implement communication plans for above products
  • Interpret environmental and cartographic data to develop customized GIS and online mapping applications


How do I qualify?

Environmental Knowledge

  • You know the principles and practices of environmental science and geographic theories used in geographic information systems.
  • You have an understanding of environmental policies, regulations and strategic objectives and issues.


Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • You have demonstrated knowledge and experience with data analysis, database design, programming languages and GIS and BI application software (e.g. ArcGIS Pro/Desktop, ArcGIS Online/Esri Portal/Enterprise); methods of spatial interpolation and cartographic theory; programming, data integration, GPS and Internet technologies (e.g. Internet/intranet mapping services such as ArcGIS Online/Esri Portal, Google Maps API); map projections, datums, geo-referencing and spatial data models (e.g. raster, vector); database concepts and software, metadata and data standards, data assimilation and dissemination techniques.
  • You know how to use computer software applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, charts).


Analytical, Investigative and Research Skills

  • You have analytical and assessment skills to identify training requirements.
  • You have analytical, investigative and research skills to conduct analysis related to environmental monitoring requirements and to investigate existing or potential data exchanges or linkages within the ministry and/or from external sources.
  • You have analytical and interpretative skills to compile geospatial databases that delivers intended objectives.


Communication, Facilitation, Interpersonal and Project Management Skills

  • You have oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to:
  • communicate/collaborate across all organizational levels of the ministry
  • gather input on development of products/applications
  • meet client needs and identify training needs
  • You have facilitation and education skills to lead staff through training exercises and programs.
  • You have the ability to develop technical products for public understanding, prepare and deliver training.
  • You have project management and coordination skills to lead and manage projects and provide technical direction in resolving problems.
