Your Opportunity

You will play an important role in planning and implementing social media strategies, as well as tracking and analyzing social media trends. You will be the Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing’s (OSEW) expert on social media and advise clients on how to maximize presence and growth on various platforms. In addition, you will assist with communication and marketing campaigns for the OSEW and support units that fall under this portfolio.

This position will report into the Dean, Student Experience and Wellbeing and will work closely with the OSEW marketing team to ensure marketing and communications align with the University’s branding and with the goals and objectives of the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Marketing & Communications office.

Other key responsibilities will include: developing content for marketing and promotional materials; writing and editing content for communication initiatives; contributing to the strategic planning of student engagement, cross-campus partnering, and community building; identifying opportunities to promote programs; researching potential target markets and providing overall support of marketing and outreach initiatives and collaborations; directs activities of casual staff and assigns work to work-study students; and fosters networks to build capacity and collaboration.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Planning and implementing components of digital media communications projects
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Writing and editing copy and content to advance communications objectives
  • Advising clients on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
  • Implementing social media campaigns
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Researching potential target markets for outreach collaborations
  • Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years of related experience in communications and/or marketing with successful project management experience in digital and print materials; managing social media platforms and analytics to create community and establish on-line presence; establishing social media campaigns; research, writing and compiling information and data for reports; developing content for promotional and outreach materials and contributing to the planning of communication and marketing strategic initiatives.
  • Must have experience supervising casual employees and/or work-study staff
  • Exhibits superior written communication skills, creativity and has a thorough understanding of best practices in digital communications and social media
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with team members and establish effective working relationships with a wide range of people from a variety of organizational and social cultures
  • Demonstrated professionalism, ability to display tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong ability to work effectively under pressure and meet competing deadlines
