The Role

Location Overview

Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • You may be eligible to receive relocation assistance.
  • As a co-op student relocating to Fort McMurray, you will receive a rental subsidy where you will arrange your own accommodations.
Position Overview

Start Date: January 4, 2022 – or sooner if possible

Work Term Length: 12- 16 months

Preferred Education: Bachelor Science – Chemistry, Biochemistry or Environmental Sciences

Preferred year of study: 2nd, 3rd or 4th year

Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in a formal co-op/internship program with their post-secondary institution OR Students must be returning to their post-secondary institution after this work term.

Number of positions available: 3

Work Schedule:The work schedule will be 12 hours per day of 7 consecutive Day Shifts starting at 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, followed by 7 consecutive Days off, followed by 7 consecutive Night Shifts starting at 7:00 pm - 7:00 am.

Bussing will be provided to site from Fort McMurray.

The Role

We’re seeking aChemical Laboratory Co-op Student to join our Long Lake Operations team. Reporting to the Lead Technician -Laboratory,you´ll be working with a team of dedicated employees across North America.

The Chemistry Laboratory Co-op Student’s primary function is to perform accurate laboratory analysis of water and hydrocarbon samples provided by the operating units and to communicate/report the results in a timely manner so as to best support the efficient, safe, and optimum operation parameters of said units. The role requires the person to have analytical knowledge, to be proficient in laboratory techniques and to work closely with the Production and Technical staff of the Business Units. Mastery of wet classical methods and instrumental techniques is essential. Direction in work execution is provided through Lab Team Lead.

During your work term, we will push you to be your best by exposing you to challenging projects and giving you the opportunity to take ownership of your work term. You will gain practical experience, develop technical skills to complement your academic learning, and gain exposure to future opportunities at our company. To succeed, you’ll need to cultivate and communicate a clear vision and set goals for yourself, whilst also juggling individual country specific targets.

Some of the key responsibilities of theChemical Laboratory Co-op Studentwill be:
  • Perform all analysis as required to support operations;
  • Prepare solutions and reagents following standard lab formulas and procedures;
  • Record data and results in various software applications in appropriate time frame;
  • Participate in developing and reviewing procedural standards;
  • Provide assistance training Process Operators in basic field tests;
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and safety standards;
  • Support Area Production and Discipline Teams in initiatives, projects and troubleshooting.
