Woven Journey Program Support Worker
The Organization
iHuman Youth Society is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve marginalized youth to promote their inclusion in the community through a program involving crisis intervention, arts, mentorship, and life skills development.
Woven Journey is a targeted program supporting young (16 - 24 yrs.) Indigenous mothers develop their parenting skills while strengthening their social and resource networks. The program is offered in small cohorts of 8 - 10 women who meet for weekly 2-3 hour group sessions. The peer support programs weekly content, as determined by the participants, covers topics that include life skills building, parenting strategies, goal setting, child development, etc., all while looking through an Indigenous lens. The Woven Journey program is a critical resource for young Indigenous mothers wanting to leave a high-risk lifestyle and build on their own parenting journey.
The Position
The Support Worker will work with Family Resource Coordinators and Woven Journey volunteers to provide general program support. The Support Worker will be responsible for:
- Direct support to individual moms, group facilitation and some child development and engagement focus
- Shopping and home deliveries of group and program supplies
- Program and project planning
- Maintaining a vibrant and healthy environment within the Family Program space for young parents and their children
The Candidate
We are looking for a support professional with a flexible, friendly attitude who empathizes with young people in a difficult situation. In addition, you will have:
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate self-initiative tasks.
- Ability to manage high-stress situations
- Awareness and knowledge of TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission), intergenerational trauma and Indigenous culture.
- Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized youth 12 - 24, an asset.
- Standard First Aid/CPR, Infant CPR, an asset.
- Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sectors Police Information check.
- Ability to lift ten pounds.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Level 1 ($18 to $20/hour)
