Job Description

We are looking for an engineer that’s passionate and excited about working on next-generation vehicles! As a Thermal Controls and Diagnostics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of embedded controls and diagnostics software for GM’s next generation of Thermal Management Systems meeting regulatory requirements and industry best practices. You will be a member of an Agile Team and this position involves a combination of requirements analysis, development of models, algorithms, hand code and test cases along with related verifications to ensure robust execution of these features.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design and develop OBD compliant thermal controls and diagnostic strategies and algorithms for safety and emissions related components, sub-systems and smart devices
  • Work closely with multi-disciplined engineering teams to understand functional requirements and implement appropriate diagnostic and control solutions
  • Apply model-based software development approach that utilizes both graphical and traditional software development methods
  • Integrate MATLAB Simulink models, adhering to modeling/software/auto coding best practices
  • Create hand code to address any requirements not achieved through auto coding process
  • Perform Integration & Verification Testing of Integrated Software
  • Build, maintain and implement test plans and procedures
  • Test and debug software using models, simulation, controller hardware and vehicles to perform HIL and Integration testing
  • Work with GM internal teams – Calibration, Systems, Integration Teams and etc.
  • Provide technical direction to support personnel
  • Execute plans with appropriate technical guidance
  • Participate in teamwork and innovation to develop and improve better controls to achieve GM’s Zero-Emission, Zero-Accident and Zero-Congestion vision.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience with Controls Algorithm and Software development, implementation and testing of real-time embedded controls systems
  • Experience with Change Management systems such as RTC and GIT environment(s)
  • Strong Matlab Simulink, State Flow, Rhapsody and embedded controls programming skills
  • Experience with CAN, LIN protocol and use of serial communication tools (ex CANoe / Vspy)
  • Experience with dSPACE/Control Desk or similar HIL tools
  • Experience with ETAS/INCA, Intrepid/Vehicle Spy or similar DAQ tools
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies and employ systems engineering and controls principles to make such technologies practical
  • Ability to work in a team and interface with colleagues from different backgrounds towards technology improvement and problem resolution
  • High analytical ability, effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills required to build relationships with local and global team members and customers to resolve issues
  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
  • Proven ability to teach others
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Experience reading and debugging source code in C
  • 1 -3 years of embedded software, automotive product development or engineering project work in team environment
  • Experience with Embedded Controls and Software for Automotive Control Modules
  • Hardware I/O level controller knowledge is a strong asset
  • CAN and LIN communication protocol knowledge is a significant asset
Minimum Education Required
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering
