Test Systems Administrator

Vecima is seeking a Test Systems Administrator to participate in supporting the development of next-generation telecommunication and networking products. The successful candidate will join an industry-leading team of technology leaders with a passion for quality networks to maximize business value, and will contribute to the development of next generation products used by some of the world’s largest Cable operators.

The Test Systems Administratorwill be responsible to maintain and grow a quality Research and Development test lab and server system and support initiatives to adapt the environment to accommodate the development of new technologies. Responsibilities include supporting product developers by establishing and maintaining quality infrastructure and networks, configuring/maintaining equipment and servers, and responding to support requests for the servers or network. Attention to detail, initiative, productivity, teamwork and quality work are necessary to be successful within Vecima’s Research and Development (R&D) culture.

The successful candidate will work as part of our Infrastructure Team located in Saskatoon, SK

• 
  Build, maintain, and optimize Linux servers, OpenStack cloud, and VM environment.
• Monitor performance metrics, usage and scalability of servers.
• Document system installations, configurations, policies and procedures.
• Propose, design, implement, and maintain server and backup solutions.
• Configure and administer networks (managed switches, routers and firewalls), services, and infrastructure.
• Identify and procure necessary components to meet the agreed needs.
• Minimize downtime through analyses, planning, and implementing best practices.
• Support efforts across the infrastructure environment/team to meet R&D business priorities.

Technical background:

• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking, design and administration of networks, and troubleshooting networks.
• Experience working with Python, bash, or other quick development software languages
• Experience with OpenStack, VMWare, and Xen systems.
• Experience with DOCSIS and IP Video
• Experience with troubleshooting and replacement of server hardware
• Experience with network health monitoring and analyses.
• Experience with physical installations, analyses and troubleshooting.

• 
  Computer Engineering diploma, Computer Systems Technologist diploma, Computer Science Degree, or Electrical Engineering Degree with focus on Computers or Networking.
• Previous network administration experience is required.
• Experience with Linux and OpenStack is required.
• Experience with VMWare is preferred.
