Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to proactively and independently research, analyze, evaluate, test and provide support on new and emerging software, platforms and other technologies that students, university faculty and library employees will need to use to support teaching, learning, discovery and knowledge creation across campus. This position will also be required to assist in the efficient delivery of IT services and supports in the Library and Archives by participating in, and by planning, coordinating and monitoring the smooth delivery of, aspects of specialized technical support and services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of all University, Information Services and Library policies and apply them appropriately.
  • Analyze staff needs and make expert recommendations on hardware and software needed by the library, including computers and mobile devices, as well as web-based applications and software programs in compliance with policies currently in place in the Library and Archives and the University.
  • Install, maintain and provide first and second tier support for computer hardware, software and peripherals for the Library and Archives.
  • Act as liaison between Library and Archives customers and Information Services to determine mutually agreeable solutions for Library and Archives technical needs in compliance with university policies using both the University ticketing system and personal contact.
  • Provide technical assistance, computer advice and guidance on all aspects of computer use and functionality for faculty and staff as requested.
  • Provide onsite set-up and support to for remote learning and conferencing tools used to deliver lectures, instruction, training, meetings or supplementary requirements.
  • Under the direction of the Web Administrator, help maintain the library website, URSource, and other web-based software as needed.
  • Develop, review and maintain internal processes and procedures documentation.
  • Work as a team member to resolve issues.
  • Record accurate and complete information including detailed description of what was done, research completed, and outline a clear, defined solution.
  • Communicate regularly with the customer on the progress towards resolution of issue or solution.
  • Use knowledge of hardware and software functions and interactions to provide effective troubleshooting.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet schedules.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to achieve work goals.
  • Keep abreast of changes in technology related to Libraries and academic communities, through internet forums, vendor seminars, webinars and internet news feeds.
  • Participate in Library projects as required.
  • Other duties appropriate to the position .
Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree/diploma in computer science or information technology combined with a minimum of five years of related hardware and software support. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software in a corporate or University setting.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service experience is required.
  • Familiarity with programming concepts and techniques.
  • Familiarity with web content management systems and basic HTML, CSS and Javascript.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret end user information requirements and recommend appropriate systems and/or applications solutions or development of proposed solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical support both in person and remotely.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with demonstrated time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal courteously and tactfully with people.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop documentation for use of software/hardware, user procedures .


Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Ubuntu/Debian Linux would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with web development would be an asset.
  • CompTIA A+ certification would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in a library or post-secondary setting would be an asset.
Physical Demands
Some physical effort is required i.e.lifting computer and other related equipment.
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5 Salary Range $55,328.00 - $74,692.80 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours
Monday to Friday – 8:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. (38 hours per week)
