Ericsson is a technology leader driving the global adoption of 5G. We are building on our history and transforming our products for networks of the future. To support the journey, we need a Senior Specialist in Network Availability to lead the introduction of the latest technical advances into our product base. If you are ready to be a leader then read on.

Job Description

The DNEW Product and Production Architecture (PPA) Systems team is responsible for the architectural evolution of the RAN in support of 5G and coming 6G. Mobile broadband has spread to become critical infrastructure supporting our daily lives and connecting first responders. New use cases like mission critical communications and centralized RAN are putting strain on the RAN Architecture to meet the needed end service availability targets. We are looking for a Senior Specialist in RAN Availability to lead the migration towards a RAN architecture that can support the new reality and uses cases to grow Ericsson’s business.

Cloud-based technologies and deployments powered by AI/ML automation offer a new toolset to apply in this context but are as yet unproven in widespread telecom RAN deployments and will bring new challenges and failure points versus our proprietary purpose-built products. The network is evolving in terms of technology and the use cases it will support. The NRAR-base needs to be considered when the architecture is set as attempts to retrofit it later are incredibly expensive and the results rarely can meet the original requirements or goals. There is need for a technology specialist in this domain with the competence to influence the architectural direction.

This is a senior position requiring the candidate to work across organizations and product lines. To find the best solutions for One Ericsson. Work products include setting of ambition levels, roadmaps, standard contributions, study items, technical reports, design estimates, requirements, pre-development items, and test strategies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Connect with customers to understand their Network Reliability, Availability and Resilience (NRAR) requirements. This includes our traditional Tier 1 operators but also enterprise and private networks.
  • Actively engage with Standards and Technology at the front-end and connect the strategies towards the development organizations and programs
  • Design and govern NRAR ambition levels
  • Drive and align the NRAR requirements and direction with architects setting the RAN Technology Architecture direction
  • Develop and maintain an NRAR roadmap for the RAN (perhaps as part of a program setup). The roadmap must consider the evolution of the MSRBS and the introduction of Cloud RAN
  • Ensure that the NRAR roadmap is aligned with the strategies set for production and test management
  • Define and drive studies in the space to set the NRAR direction
  • Study new failure points in future networks and drive technical solutions and mitigations
  • Develop predictive NRAR models for the RAN to explore the impacts of improvements, architectural patterns and deployments
  • Monitor industry trends and bring the relevant technologies into work plans (e.g., development plans)
  • Support PoCs in the space
  • Alert line and programs when gaps between product and NRAR requirements are evident
  • Transfer knowledge about NRAR techniques and design best practices and assist with knowledge building plans. Mentor others in the domain
  • Build bridges across organizations to create a holistic view of the NRAR space. This includes running regular workshops and information sharing sessions

An ideal candidate would be a self-starter, detailed, organized, analytical as well as practical, and be able to work collaboratively with Customers, Vendors, Competitors, Product Line, Systems, Design and Integration/Verification teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum MSEE or BSEE with related work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in systems specification in the telecommunication field or related experience
  • Experience interfacing directly with customers and competitors
  • Practical experience in designing and delivering architectural solutions with focus on NRAR
  • Cloud System Competence (Open NFV, Open Stack, TOSCA, ETSI MANO architecture, SBA (Service-Based Architecture, Netconf/yang))
  • Experience with Ericsson’s Radio portfolio

Asset Skills or Experience

  • Practical understanding of the LTE 3GPP specification.
  • Knowledge of Radio Access Configurations and interface specifications
  • Large-scale development in a commercial setting
  • Practical experience delivering solutions to the cloud
  • Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting and computer skills
  • Ability to work in teams. Experience working multi-site
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
