What Does a Spotter/Labourer Do?

With instructions from the Patrol Supervisor, a Spotter/ Labourer will work together to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure and provide spotting support for winter plow operations.

As a Spotter/Labourer, You Will:

• Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual HSE obligation for the staff and public are met
• Provide spotting for winter plow trucks during operations
• Communicate with snowplow operators via radio on road hazards and conditions
• Become familiar with performance requirements of the Maintenance Contract
• Conduct daily circle checks of equipment before operating
• Clean and maintain equipment and perform minor repairs
• Perform housekeeping duties to ensure the shop, common areas, and exterior of the yard are clean and safe
• Maintain accurate documentation of hours of service, fuel records, time sheets, etc.
• Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring:

• G or G2 class driver’s license, an asset
• 1+ years’ experience in positions including landscaping, labourer etc. are strong assets
• Mechanical knowledge and experience with general equipment maintenance and operation of small tools and heavy equipment considered an asset
• Willingness to learn and appreciate Miller values - safety, quality, and integrity so we can continue “Building Greatness”
• Willingness to remain on call on a regular shift rotation, and work assigned day, night, and weekend shifts
• Excellent team player to work productively in a highly functional team
• Flexibility and organizational skills to multitask and manage time in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
• Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions
• Basic computer knowledge
• Effective communication (both written and verbal) to accurately document daily activities
• Ability to perform manual labour and lift up to 25 kilograms
