Course number and title: MSC2002H5F Sequential Medical Communication: Demonstrative Evidence for the Courtroom


Course description:
This course focuses on relationships between content, medium and audience to visually clarify complex medical and scientific concepts for sequential storytelling in medical malpractice and personal injury cases. Relationships are examined through the design and creation of demonstrative evidence for the Canadian courtroom. A case-based approach simulates professional practice. Theories of visual knowledge building, information design, multimedia communication, learning/teaching, and cognitive psychology inform the design of medical legal illustrations and courtroom media. Co-design and collective visual problem-solving skills are enhanced through collaborative development and critical analysis feedback critiques. Assignments focus on developing visualization techniques, mastering advanced colour theory, designing for knowledge translation, and rendering transformative visual explanations for illustrative evidence.

1 x 3-hour In Person lecture per week for 12 weeks, beginning September 13, 2022. (Wednesdays, 10 am to 1 pm)

Salary (In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, effective September 1, 2023.)

Sessional Lecturer I - $18,915.79 (Y, full course) & $9,457.89 (H, half course, 0.5 FCE);
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $19,861.58 (Y, full course) & $9,930.79 (H, half course, 0.5 FCE);
Sessional Lecturer II - $20,243.53 (Y, full course) & $10,121.76 (H, half course, 0.5 FCE);
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $20,653.23 (Y, full course) & $10,326.61 (H, half course, 0.5 FCE);
Sessional Lecturer III - $20,725.52 (Y, full course) & $9,301.90 (H, half course, 0.5 FCE);
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $21,140.03 (Y, full course) & $10,570.01 (H, half course, 0.5 FCE).

All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.


Qualifications:
Minimum MScBMC, MA or MSc in relevant area. Currency and mastery of subject area required and demonstrated excellence in teaching similar courses.


Description of duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; the development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations; calculation and submission of grades; holding a minimum regular office hours of 2 hours per week; preparation of course for remote/online delivery.
