The City Revitalization Branch is looking for a skilled and creative Senior Landscape Architect. Join our multidisciplinary team focused on strategies to attract residents and investment to Regina’s central communities. This position leads landscape architecture activities to make great places for people, including enhancing the public realm through planning, managing, and supporting the implementation of streetscape and other improvement projects. The role will undertake systems analysis, community engagement, application review and provide technical expertise and advice. This position reports to a Senior City Planner.
Typical duties include:
· Work in an interdisciplinary environment to plan and implement projects and plans to improve the urban design and public realm (e.g., pathways, streetscapes, views, placemaking, public art siting, etc.) in existing areas as part of neighbourhood improvement projects and neighbourhood plans.
· Assist in or directs technical employees on the preparation of design plans, specifications and cost estimates of various landscape architect projects including contract management and administration as assigned.
· Conducts site analysis and gathers field data to perform planning and design work.
· Research and analysis of emerging trends, policies and best practices from other jurisdictions and implement opportunities to benefit the department and the corporation.
· Prepare and present complex reports, contract documents, terms of reference, requests for proposals, policies and procedures, correspondence and briefs, and reports to Committees and Council.
· Create computerized models of open spaces, the city open space system and related business aspects to elevate and recommend solutions for city policy, planning and open space issues.
· Interpret and analyze complex data, information, processes, programs and problems and develop best practices options, solutions, improvements and recommendations which have significant benefit for and impact to levels of service provided to the work units and customers.
· Serve as a point of contact between internal departments, committees of council, developers, consultants, planners, engineers, landscape architects and government officials on development related inquiries involving city infrastructure or infrastructure servicing policies.
· Assists in the review of conceptual landscape design, working drawings and specifications prepared by other agencies for new public open space and other development which impacts on the public domain.
· Develops design standards and requirements to ensure functional use, aesthetic, and safety considerations are met.
· Assists in the development and interpretation of design guidelines and standards related to open space requirements for new communities and the redevelopment of older neighbourhoods
· Participates with community groups, external agencies and other departments in solving design problems, presenting information on new and upgrade projects and conducts public input processes as required.
Education & Experience
· The knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained through a University Landscape Architect degree with a minimum of five (5) years professional landscape architect experience in a related field of municipal infrastructure.
· Eligible for full membership in the Saskatchewan Association of Landscape Architecture.
· Proven policy development experience in a landscape architect, public works or Land Development environment is preferred
