The Occupational Health and Safety Branch of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety is recruiting a Senior Occupational Health Officer in the Safety Operations Health Care Unit. The Branch is looking for a health and safety professional with proven safety experience focused in the areas of ergonomics to take a leading role in the work of the Safety Operations Health Care Unit. The position will require the successful candidate to demonstrate the Ministries’ core values, such as honesty and integrity.

The successful candidate will have proven analytical skills and have demonstrated the ability to effectively apply occupational health and safety principles and strategies while promoting and enforcing the Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2020. Your experience will include 5+ years’ experience in commercial or industrial workplaces, 3+ years supervising employees in a commercial or industrial setting and a minimum of 3 years’ experience applying fundamental health and safety work practices, techniques, and requirements.

This position will be based in either the Regina or Saskatoon location.

As Senior Occupational Health Officer, the successful candidate will partner with the Team Lead and Manager to coach and mentor staff to promote and enforce compliance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, and the associated regulations.

Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through a degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Therapy, or related disciplines, plus 5 or more years of experience in solving ergonomic problems in industry and 3 or more years in a leadership position. Experience in the healthcare industry/ environments would be an asset.

CRSP or CRST designation will be considered an asset.

Travel is required. A valid class 5 driver’s license is required, and driver’s abstract may be requested.

You will:

  • provide industry exposure and a transfer of knowledge to new and junior Occupational Health Officers.
  • build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and interest groups;
  • create a positive, productive and engaging environment for Ministry employees.
  • be responsible for regular field presence with new and junior Occupational Health Officers;
  • respond to serious injuries and fatalities, possibly on evenings or weekends; and
  • lead special projects.

Our candidate of choice will have experience in a regulatory role, strong leadership skills, successful coaching or mentoring experience, proven analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent organizational skills, and the demonstrated ability to effectively apply occupational health and safety principles and strategies in the promotion and enforcement of regulations and standards. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, as you will often interact with a variety of stakeholders.
