What is the opportunity?

In the increasingly complex world of financial services, accurate and complete data is critical for risk management and regulatory compliance. Ensuring data integrity begins with an understanding of financial services data, business processes and effectively assessing key risks and controls. As an Analyst, Data Integrity & Key Controls you will conduct risk assessments and provide control recommendations for business critical processes and regulatory reports. Reporting to the Associate Director, you will work with business partners across the organization including Finance, Group Risk Management, Personal & Commercial Banking, Capital Markets, Wealth Management Internal/External Audit and the SOX Office.


What will you do?

Risk & Control Assessments:

  • Prepare risk assessments using the Standardized Approach to Key Controls (SAKC) methodology consistently across all critical Risk and Finance reports and key business processes.
  • Evaluate any unmitigated risks and control weaknesses, and provide recommendations for new or enhanced controls consistent with the Enterprise Data Policy.
  • Support report and business process owners in identifying material risks and critical data flows in order to prioritize control activities.
  • Ensure SAKC packages and recommendations are fully documented and presented for review and approval by report and/or business process owners, the SOX and Data Management offices.


Process Management & Continuous Improvement:

  • Work with the Data Management Offices, IT and other business functions to support the implementation of control enhancements and/or new data controls, as needed.
  • Support the review of Critical Data Element (CDE) Memos, data lineage and control information for Finance, Risk critical reports, key business processes and data domains.
  • Maintain and update the key control methodology principles, process and documentation.
  • Gain and apply an in-depth understanding of key controls (e.g. data input, data transfer, business rule, data quality, system controls) and how each can be applied to mitigate data risks in a given data flow or system scenario.
  • Provide support by tracking status of team objectives by maintaining and updating the team’s JIRA board on SAKC and CDE Memo Review progress.


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 1-2+ years of experience in financial services preferably including risk management, data management and business analysis.
  • Some experience with credit risk data, data quality principles, data control design, self-assessment of existing processes and systems.
  • Post-secondary education in a numerical discipline, business administration or a combination.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, with a strong desire to achieve tangible results.


Nice-to-have

  • Some experience with business and/or technical documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in busy times.
  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex data related issues.
  • Some familiarity with the financial service regulatory environment (e.g. BCBS239, IFRS 9, CECL)
