Reporting to the Supervisor, SCADA and Cyber Security, the SCADA and System Optimization Technologist is responsible for the administration, maintenance, development, and support of ATCO Gas and Pipelines SCADA system, Real Time Model (RTM), Control Centre computer applications and all related sub-systems. This work is of a varied and at times complex nature, requiring troubleshooting techniques.

What You Get To Do

  • Maintain changes, additions and deletions to SCADA, and historical databases.
  • Maintain the SCADA graphical user interface to accurately reflect the physical pipeline system.
  • Identify, investigate, analyze and resolve facility/telemetry anomalies displayed on SCADA or RTM.
  • Document all aspects of work, develop system standards, develop and maintain training manuals and carry out SCADA of Control Centre Operators.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair workstations and peripheral equipment including network communications, switches, routers, firewalls, terminal servers, and printers.
  • Support all aspects of SCADA or RTM operating systems including system maintenance, backups, installations, testing, trouble shooting and repair.
  • Represent SCADA or RTM with electronic shop, operations, engineering, gas control, vendors, and internal customers. May supervise vendors throughout upgrades and during support.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain changes, additions, and deletions to the AMR via SCADA system and support users of AMR data.
  • Develop and maintain data exchanges with other systems.
  • Write, test, debug, and deploy programs written in C, Visual Basic, Perl, ISQL queries.
  • Write, test, debug, deploy, and support desktop and Remote Client Services (RCS) applications to provide data to internal customers.
  • Support SCADA and Cybersecurity Project Managers on capital and O&M projects (i.e. provide technical input, install components, and perform testing).
  • May provide direction to seasonal staff and coop students.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

What you Bring:

  • Computer Engineering Technologist Diploma. An Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering or other closely related Technologist Diploma supplemented with computer courses and related experience will be considered.
  • Recognized by ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • Experience in Windows System administration and Active Directory maintenance would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of network and data communications hardware and software.
  • A good understanding of process control, DCS, and SCADA systems would be an asset.
  • Programming experience. Experience in object oriented programming would be an asset.
  • Understanding of relational databases in a client-server environment, preferably in MSSQL.
  • Work regularly scheduled standby and adhere to standby policies.
  • May be called out to assist in emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Valid Class 5 license and use of personal vehicle required.
