Requried Certificates & Trainings
  • The Quality Control Inspector will be certified with at least one of the following:
a) Saskatchewan Pressure Equipment Inspector’s Class 1 License; Boilers / Pressure Vessels / Piping

b) Saskatchewan Pressure Equipment Inspector’s Class 2 License; Pressure Vessels / Piping

c) API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification

d) API 570 Piping Inspector Certification; or

e) CWB W178.2 Level II or III Welding Inspector Certification with ASME VIII-1 & IX,

Boiler, and Pressure Vessel Code Endorsements.
  • The Quality Control Inspector must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the current
Saskatchewan Boilers and Pressure Vessels Act and Regulations, CSA B51 and the

related ASME Codes.
  • Pre-access Drug and Alcohol Certificate - Letter indicating Pass / Fail of the D&A test (if selected, will be required & arranged by SGS)
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Confined Space Training
  • Fall Arrest Training
  • SaskPower Orientation- Complete site specific Orientation - will be performed at site
  • CODC & SCOT training prior to coming to GPPS site, approximately 4 hours per course- (GPPS Site Requirement) - to be taken online
  • SaskPower Standard Protection Code Training- Not Required at this time but may request depending on work happening at other SaskPower generation sites.
Scope Of Work

The scope of the Work includes the supply of all labour, materials and equipment necessary

to provide quality control services at Boundary Dam, Shand, Poplar River Power Stations and

other SaskPower locations. The scope of this Work includes, but is not limited to, the oversight

of code repairs performed by the applicable Station’s maintenance Contractor and/or

SaskPower.

The Services will be used on the steam generator (boiler), pressure vessels, power piping, and

at SaskPower’s discretion, components not within the jurisdiction of the Saskatchewan Boilers

and Pressure Vessels Act & Regulations.

The service that will be required at Boundary Dam, Shand, Poplar River Power Stations and

other SaskPower locations will be for additional Quality Control Inspection coverage to support

SaskPower QCI personnel on an as needed basis in the event that more Quality Control

Inspectors are required on Site. The scope of this Work will not be for the full QCI coverage of

unit overhauls and turnarounds.

Responsible To

 Ensure all legal and corporate requirements are met (ASME Codes, Saskatchewan Act

and Regulations, NBIC, CSA B51, SaskPower Quality Management System, SaskPower

Quality Control Manual, SaskPower Functional Specification, SaskPower Boiler

Inspection manual Run/Repair/Replace Program, SAP (Systems Applications and

Products) and Quality Control Data Base;

 Oversee all repairs or alterations in the course of the overhaul/outage. ASME Section I,

B31.1, B31.3 and ASME Section VIII

 Ensure all repairs are done in the areas planned (correct tube, platen, waterwall etc.);

 Ensure all material sizes are OEM or SaskPower approved substitutions;

 Ensure all materials have been inspected prior to issue from stores. Ensure specification,

designation, size and nominal wall thickness is correct and the material is free from dents,

bends, flattened areas, corrosion etc.;

 Ensure document material master records (Item ID’s) and heat trace numbers (when

applicable) on the material/component list at the stores sign out counter;

 Ensure materials are referenced to work order number and the applicable operation;

 Ensure all materials are welded with the applicable approved SaskPower or third party

Weld Procedure and the procedure is adhered to;

 Ensure all welders are qualified for the welding procedure used;

 Monitor and verify heat treatment as per SaskPower Quality Control Manual;

 Visually inspect all welds when required by governing codes and a requirement by

SaskPower;

 Ensure NDE examinations are in accordance with applicable codes;

 Ensure all information relevant to the repairs (calibration records, heat treatment records,

NDE reports/examinations, non-conformances, welder identification, weld types etc. is

recorded);

 Report all non-conformances to the SaskPower Quality Control Administrator;

 Participate in NCR disposition/correction;

 Participate in “near miss” data collection and supply a “near miss report”; and

 Report any information to the SaskPower Quality Control Administrator or QA Manager

that may be of interest.

Travel
  • Local residents shall not be entitled to travel time & mileage expense.
  • A local resident is a person who resides within eighty (80) road kilometres radius of the project.
Subsistence
  • Subsistence allowance will not be paid to local residents
  • If outside 80 kms radius,
  • One Mob / Demob will be paid (travel time & mileage)
  • Inspector will receive subsistence allowance (CAD $190/day) toward the expense of their board and lodgings
  • Original documents (not photocopies) are required for proof of residence. These will be verified by the Contract Administrator (SaskPower), copied and returned.
  • Two (2) of the following are acceptable:
  • Income Tax Assessment
  • Property Tax Assessment
  • Unemployment Insurance
  • Utilities Receipt
