Job Description
Our corporate team responsible for overseeing our Toronto commercial properties is looking for an experienced and dedicated accountant looking to apply their property accounting skills and knowledge. This position is responsible for assisting with a wide range of accounting tasks and ensuring the smooth functioning of accounting operations during staffing shortages, peak workloads, or employee absences. The ability to quickly adapt to different accounting environments and contribute to the timely completion of accounting tasks is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial accounting, commercial tenant leases, CAM and Tax recoveries, bank reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation. This role will develop relationships with the Property Accounting teams, Asset Management, Corporate Accounting, and Financial Service Centre.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, and HST Returns
  • Prepare monthly SOX Packages
  • Prepare monthly rent roll reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages including variance and cashflow analysis
  • Prepare statements of operating costs and calculation of tenant billings and year-end adjustments
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations and clean-up
  • Assist in reporting and analysis as required by Co-owners and Corporate Accounting
  • Assist in the preparation of interim and year-end audit packages
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Assist in tenant setup in Yardi and prepare lease analysis/memos
  • Support the Tenant Services and Operations group when required
  • Ad hoc projects as required
QUALIFICATIONS
SERVICE / PERSONAL SKILLS:
Must be service-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. You must be a team player, mature, outgoing, and diplomatic with people. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously, are essential for this role. You are analytical and very detail-oriented with advanced problem-solving capabilities.
EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of month-end/accounting cycle for the preparation of a full set of financial statements
  • Preparation/review of financial statements, cash management, budgets, audit working papers and tenant operating cost adjustments
  • Exposure to inter-departmental relationships within a large organization
  • Intermediate to an advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word
  • Property Accounting Experience
  • Exposure to Yardi Voyageur is considered an asset
EDUCATION/DESIGNATIONS/LICENSES:
  • University Degree or College Diploma in an accounting-related field of study
Pursuing a professional accounting designation such as CPA or a CPA member in good standing
